Service in the States can vary between absolutely disgraceful to absolutely fantastic and I usually find the big cities the worst. Over the last couple of years I've become less tolerant of poor service so I just leave 10% - bks to them! If it's excellent service and they're chatty and friendly they'll get 20%.

Rumour has it that if you use a card like Revolut they're unable to collect the tip if they run the card for the bill first (before you sign it and leave your tip). So when you get your slip to sign you could write $1000 and they wouldn't be able to get any of it. Not sure if it's true but some of my colleagues have said it's the case.

I usually reckon on £25 for a meal and a drink, more if it's beer as they're usually $8 for a decent one now.

I was there in november for 3 weeks, used uber for taxis, very quick and easy and pays via paypal. Tipped the nice chatty drivers well as fares are cheap anyway.
