Or Duquesa ... easy to get something nice there. Basically a larger Cabopina attached to Manilva. Personally I am alwasy happy in Duquesa
It's worth a look !
As Chris says, Gib is then an option .. even more so if you up the funds and look at Sotogrande
Some amazing properties in Sotogrande, but to me it’s a bit soulless. It's worth a look !

Nice place to wander around - I did stay there for a week and did my boat licence there with yachting sotogrande .. That was fun :-)
Soto is pretty quiet out of season and dead through the winter
Some people we know have a house there… out by the polo club… old school money… fabulous property with loads of character on an enormous plot. Must be worth 6-7 million. They only spend a few weeks a year there.
I think that’s a fairly typical ownership profile for the area.

Mijas town is really lovely.
I think you’ll probably need to up your budget to get a townhouse with a pool though… 300-350 is around entry for a decent 3 bd apartment. A detached property would be double that minimum.
We really like Mijas but you’re right. It’s outside of our budget. We are thinking of renting for a year first wherever we choose. We can’t afford to make an expensive mistake.

Sitting here in the sun in mojacar playa
Retired in May, and now out here renting whilst looking for the right property, it’s a lovely position to be in.
Very hard to read the property market as everything we looked at last year is still for sale - villlas with pools €500k upwards
Where did you find a rental? It’s part of our plan to rent for a year before buying. Thanks Retired in May, and now out here renting whilst looking for the right property, it’s a lovely position to be in.

Good luck within the search… you might find you get more for your money in Estepona as parts are good VFM.
Bit further to travel from the airport, but can always use Gib instead.

Chris I finally tried the Presa Iberica that you recommended. Fantastic stuff. The mini hatchet was a little bit overkill.
The starter was a bit ahem challenging. I should have read between the lines when the waitress told me it was salted fish and sausages in a way that meant are you sure?. What she was really saying was that foreigners don’t like this stuff. The dish is called “Alicante pantry” and is supposed to represent a typical market stall. Literally came out on a trolley done up like a market stall and was cut in front of us. Best part was the spiced bread Still, better to have tried something and ruled it out for the future.

I’m planning on buying a place within the next couple of years. Probably near Fuengirola but not on the coast.
Looked on Rightmove but prices seem all over the place.
I can either get the digital nomad or NLV. Will decide based on money.
Budget £300-350,000 max. Not sure but I’m thinking small detached villa or townhouse but really would like a small private pool.
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Both areas lovely and Cabopina has a gorgeous small marina :-)

I've been going there for 20 years+, but renting a villa for a holiday is the better approach there, I think it's over priced to live in.

The starter looks ‘interesting’
Looking at the very same stretch of boardwalk
First day of villa hunting has revealed 700 doesn't go far beachside, but beachside it has to be having looked further back at Aloha, Resina, naranjos, benahavis etc
With the dogs, walking straight out onto the beach without negotiating that bloody A7 has got to be worth some extra..

Yeah, 700 beach front will only get you an apartment… or maybe an older townhouse that needs modernising.
There are some villas, in nice areas to, but they’re just that little bit too small, we’re not after big as we want it easy to manage but 90m2 habitable on 210m2 plot doesnt quite cut it, plus the owners have tried to max rental potential by putting 4 bedrooms in, do the math! I dont want to start too much building work and removing rooms etc.Push it to 900 spend (so look at 1m) and theres a significant creep in what you get, certainly more value to us than the extra 200k spend.
Either that or keep in budget and go further back and that just doesnt feel like what we’re here for.
Always happens with anything we buy though, so should be expected i guess.
90sqm?? That’s small even for a 2 bed.
I know location is important, but I couldn’t do with something that size.
I looked at a brand new 3b penthouse with some friends that was 105sqm and €800k+ extras (would have been close to 900 all in). The 2nd and 3rd bedrooms were just big enough for a standard double and 2 bedside tables… 6 people staying there would have been crammed in line sardines.
My apartment is as small as I’d want at 130sqm. 3 beds, 2 baths and 130sqm terrace. All 3 of my bedrooms have proper super king size beds with plenty of space to walk round them.

Yeah, 130 is about minimum for us i think.
We are looking for something small so that its completely different to our place & lives in france, we wont have friends or family visiting so thats not a consideration that needs to be made, 2 dogs though, hence gardens and not an appartement.
Later on i think a large apartment would suit us tbh, lovely grounds all taken care of and often some have restaurant facilities for breky which i love the idea of…
Las Dunas we ear marked a while ago as a live in possibility, stunning imo, nice old style look (looks more french than spanish) not sure on pet policy there, not stayed but looks like it'd be strict, MCH only allow pets in there beach front cottages and theres no residency there. Kempinski is good with pets and have residency with penthouses, they’re nice to.
We’ll persevere on villas for now and see where we get, here for as long as we want to be, quite early in the year for new listings so remain optimistic

This was interesting graph from Frank Knight (good article on the market actually) https://www.dmproperties.com/marketreport
This is what a million gets you these days per m2,
So beachside ‘new’ golden mile is where we’re at.. 2019 was 280m2
