Not sure why so many people seem to have an issue with Vegas. As long as you are not expecting to see Roman ruins or a collection of paintings by Rembrant, but ARE expecting fantastic restaurants, great hotels and hospitality- you are going to enjoy it just fine!
I'd guess there's some snobbery about it - can be busy, American, noisy. I don't like busy, or noisy but I enjoy Vegas every few years. No closing time, warm, fantastic restaurants that one can get a a table at, and a nice change from the rest of the world! We’ve been may many times, stayed at nearly all the Strip hotels but our current favourite is to stay at the Red Rock Casino.
Always visit as part of a road trip and stay 3 days max.
We took my wife’s mum after she lost her husband, Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack era were a major part of her life and she love’s anything in that theme, she’s celebrated New Year on the strip and we returned with her two closest friends celebrating her 80th and again celebrating her 85th. Fully expect her to make it back to toast in her 90th year. She loves it, getting all dressed up, everyone makes such a fuss from flight crew to restaurant staff and everyone she’s met along the way.
Crazy town, not for everyone but that’s it’s USP

Odd, I lived there for 7 years and would often go and see the Steve Wynn collection of impressionist paintings at the Bellagio. Stay on the strip is my best advice. The areas around the strip can get a little rough and are not well policed.

About a quarter mile from the Fremont Street experience, next to the methadone clinic. (I used to work across the street)https://www.startpage.com/av/proxy-image?piurl=htt...
Stay on the strip.

I think you are disproving your own point. You have mentioned how it’s “fun” and there is plenty to do that isn’t gambling, such as the Grand Canyon and Harleys! Don’t forget Hoover dam and water sports on Lake Mead. I’m not a gambler, because I’m st, but have enjoyed Vegas a couple of times. Everyone comes away with a Vegas story. I off roaded a brand new mustang for 40 miles. There was the day I went from dessert to ski resort by driving up one hill. The restaurant they get swans to swim around you while you eat and the very trippy frog at the Wynn. Those are all sober stories to because “What happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas” (except herpes).

There’s a good whisky bar in the container park. Got hammered there last time on some very very strong cocktails.Gassing Station | Holidays & Travel | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
