Can anybody recommend a decent hotel in Dubai for the last week in February? Me and Mrs C are going on our first holiday ever without the kids (and it's also our wedding anniversary) so I would like to treat her to something nice fo a change smile

Budget for flights and hotel is circa £1k. I've googled a fair amount and the best I'm coming up with is the Hyatt Regency for 5 nights B&B with direct flights with Emirates.

All suggestions, hints, tips, recommendations appreciated.

p.s. We want to stay in Dubai itself rather than any of the other Emirates (which I know can be cheaper)

What dates and what are your plans for the trip?

It’s an ok hotel but not ideally situated. However if that 1k is for 2 people I expect it will take some beating.

We’re in the Taj Dubai for our time there, all I can say is the photos look very nice. I haven’t actually been there yet hehe

Emirates Holidays site is probably your best bet for the best prices combining the two.

Keep searching would be my advice. Hyatt Regency not very well located. Interesting fact...? Hyatt Regency used to have the no.1 escort bar in Dubai around 15 years ago. Although i have not been in it.

There is a very good thread on this exact topic from 6 months ago where Shirt and I put forward around 20-30 hotel options - see if you can get into one of those. You could consider splitting the flights and accommodation - no need for a package.

The “Go to” on Dubai threads is Le Royal Meridien.

10 visits and I’d not consider anywhere else.

Not long back from Atlantis on the palm but it’s above your price range.

Careful with B&B in Dubai, food and drink is EXPENSIVE over there.

I think you’ll need to up your budget a bit.

I like The Address. Don’t know if it’s doable “in budget” though

Not a couples hotel and felt much like a zoo when I went there.

There are multiple Address hotels… Locations are various, but generally they’re decent. Probably above the stated budget in Feb, I would think.

Good point. I mean the address downtown, that’s the one I’ve stayed in

I've not stayed in loads of different hotels there but Royal Meridian is probably the best I've stayed at.
Great breakfast, restaurants and its own beach, and a few attractions near by.

The location of it is perfect, just at the bottom of JBR and the entrance to the Palm so you miss all the noise of it but it's just a short walk up and has loads of shops and restaurants for various budgets.
Supermarket/pharmacy bang opposite, the Marina just on the other side of it.

Whether it can be done within your budget is another matter though.

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions.

The budget is £1k each. We're not desperate for the hotel to be on the beach, my wife would prefer it to be located near the shopping areas. However if anybody has some suggestions as to location I'm happy to listen smile

The price that I've got is via Emirates. one of the big advantages is that it's direct rather than a having a change at London or Istanbul (and therefore adding on 3 hours each way).

Thanks for the Le Royal Meridien and Atlantis suggestions - Ill have a google. thumbup It's rare that we go away without the kids so I'd like to treat myy wife to something special (if budget allows!)

Re: food my brother went a few months ago and he said there were plenty of cheap eats available? He also said Deliveroo was an option. I think the Hyatt are asking an extra £70 pp for full board for the 6 days we're there so am I better off choosing that option?

Thanks again!

Great spot - particularly for the proximity to shopping the OP eludes to for his wife, and access to all the downtown/business bay/city walk stuff.

No - you are not better off choosing that option. You are travelling a long way, there's no point being stuck in a poor location - 45 mins taxi journey from most things.

The answer to your question lies in splitting the flights and accommodation, and for hotels that are well located and suit your budget, refer to the thread i posted a link to further up.

Just back from Dubai and a week's stay at Le Royal Meridien (beach resort), mainly considered after seeing the recommendations on PH and was really pleased with it.

Not a showy hotel as such, and not an instagrammer in sight really, but the hotel itself was just really "nice". It's hard to put your finger on it - nothing was out of place, nothing was ever too much trouble, the service *everywhere* was superb. I don't think there's a bad thing I can say about it. It might be a coincidence, but everyone staying at the hotel also seemed nice and pleasant. Everyone was polite, please and thank yous and there was no sense at all of one-upmanship, with people decked head to toe in designer gear showing off and so on.

We paid for a club room which gets you the club lounge access with breakfast, afternoon tea, evening snacks and a drinks happy hour from 6-8. It was well worth the extra for this, just for the evening drinks alone. Because Le Royal Meridien isn't the most expensive hotel, it left plenty for eating out which can be expensive. Really really enjoyed the brunch at Tasca, and Buddha Bar was also excellent as well. I thought Hakkasan was a bit disappointing personally. We had a few walks down the JBR and there's a few nice, lively restaurants there as well. Unlike a lot of restaurants outside hotels, a number of these have alcohol licenses (e.g. the ones at Pavillion at the Beach like Mezcaleria, Eataly, etc).

Atlantis I have stayed at for a week before. It was a good experience but it's like a big vegas hotel rather than being a luxury hotel, just because it's so busy. You're never going to get that level of service or attention to detail. It's definitely worth a visit, either for a dinner or to see the aquarium etc, but 2-3 nights is enough there maximum really.

Been going to the Royal Meridien for years, we just spent New Year there also in the Club, and are heading back in 5 weeks, we like it that much, but year by year the prices keep creeping up, and although the Royal Meridien isn't one of the most expensive, it's also not the cheapest.
To be honest if you're looking at 1K each to be honest that's not really going to cut it, a bog standard room will knock you back around 350 quid a night, and you are still going to want your spends.
Some of my friends when they go down often get apartments on JBR which apparently are really well appointed, and there's everything you need on JBR, so no need to rely on Deliveroo, but I suppose if you have an apartment that could always be an option.
If it's your 1st time to Dubai you're going to want to be out and about checking out all of the sights, so it'll only end up being a place to get a shower and get your head down, Taxi's are plentiful and cheap as chips in Dubai, so you have no worries getting around.

the fb option will be buffet style and the hyatt just isn't nice enough for that. tbh i'd forget this hotel completely. i was thinking of the grand hyatt initially, but then realised my mistake. the regency is a no.

as long as you're not on the palm fronds it really doesn't matter what your location is in that everything will be a 20 min taxi ride away outside of rush hour. if relaxation is a goal [esp. with a drink in hand], a hotel with beach access and amenities is better than one without.
