If wiki is saying that number you quoted then it's a strange number for it to have wrong!

It wasn't wiki, it was a random tour company that conveniently (for my google fu) gave approximate heights for the various camps.

Sorry, I'm distracting from the main thread which wasn't my intention. I just wanted to give a few heights for context that was all smile

No need for sorry, just amused me that anything on Google would get the summit height wrong, given it's the most famous height in the world probably rofl

Great thread, and great achievement. Well Done.

Out of curiosity, you spent weeks aclimatising to the lack of oxygen at those heights, but what happens afterwards when you return to sea level, you must be high as a kite for a while?

Haha sadly I was hoping I might feel like that but it wasn’t the case. If I had the desire to go for a 10km run I probably would have beaten my PB by a hell of a lot though, alas after such a long and tiring expedition all I wanted to do was celebrate and get pissed, and the beneficial effects disappear very quickly.

Of course, descending from base camp to Lukla for the flight out to Kathmandu is pretty cool when you are acclimatised to 8000m. You are mentally on a high, grinning from ear to ear and jogging and skipping past people on their way up who are going very slow, out of breath and glum. They are also very clean and nice smelling though which you no longer are!

I tried after returning from Aconcagua (7000m).
Easiest 10k run ever, hardly out of breath but sadly no faster. I guess I couldn’t beat the mechanical limitations of my body

I remember having a very weird sensation after flying down from lukla, that the air seemed almost chewy in your mouth in comparison to weeks at altitude.

A view I've not seen before.

Looking across from Lhotse I guess?

Anyone reckon the OP DIDN’T actually climb Everest, but since starting the thread never realised it’d generate this much interest so is actually climbing it now so that he’s got something to post when he gets back, and that’s why we’ve been waiting for the final chapter for months now, despite promises to get it done in the next day or so every couple of weeks?

Sorry, two weeks of half term with wife and baby both home haven’t helped. Normal service resumes on Monday.

OP’s still up there. Reckon he’s just started his descent so should be back in the UK in a couple of weeks. He can begin collating his vast collection of photos then so an update should be pretty imminent…

If it's any consolation, I do find myself feeling bad that I'm letting you guys down.

I promise I'll get to it soon. If it's worth it.....can't promise anything

When and if you can, it will be most exciting to read! Thanks for all your efforts so far Sir and please ignore any doubters or posts of some bizarre entitlement. The internet really is a strange place. wink

Strange post. I’m sure the OP doesn’t mind a bit of gentle ribbing, the same as I’m sure no-one’s expecting the OP to work to a deadline.
