There was a cruise the other day where a bunch of people were at it in one of the hot tubs

I've already established the cruises that appear to appeal to me and the Mrs are gays and Grays
Young people people and partying aint our thing

You couldn't be more wrong but if thats what you are choosing to believe then there'll be no changing your mind.

Honestly you won't but as Ive said I'm really not sure about cruising full stop.

Celebrity seem to be more us without being stuffy as I dont want yo be on one where you need to dress up.

I'm going to give it a go and we shall see

Going on out first cruise on Friday, P&O Britannia to Norwegian Fjords for 7 nights.

Taking dressing up stuff, there are 2 formal nights, so we'll see how it goes.

I think you just have to embrace it.
Yes I expect some of the entertainment will be cheesy and they'll be some annoying people on board but it's a big enough boat to avoid them.

Got a few trips booked and will decide what we are doing on the other days depending on the weather.

Will report back when we return.

Nice choice to “dip your toe in the water” and you’re going with the right attitude.

A Norwegian cruise during term time won’t be a big booze cruise and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. It’s wonderful sitting on deck or your balcony just enjoying the scenery drift by.

I’ve got a lot of time for P&O - “fair” prices for drinks onboard and excursions, and good value for money overall. Food and entertainment is unashamedly geared towards “British” tastes but if the food in the main dining room can be unadventurous there’s always Sindhu or the Epicurean for a modest extra charge. It’s worth going to the buffet in the evening if they do an Indian night…

Entertainment is fine - plenty of quizzes, cover bands etc and the Headliners do have some decent shows. Even sitting and watching the karaoke for an hour can be a good laugh - like you said just go and embrace it.

Have fun!

Off on the Queen Anne maiden on Friday. Pretty excited about it.

There's a press evening tonight on it, a number of Youtube videos are up already so watching these.

Only annoying thing is it looks like they no longer serve curry in the pub at lunch, and the burger is now $11 as a chargeable item (on the QV/QE it's included) following Michel Roux's reworking of the menu.

I wouldn't go that far. But, they do look pretty tacky/cheesy to me but that seems to go with everything related to the Virgin name these days - even the bank.

The documentary that I watched really didn't help my opinion but there are people on here who have used them & enjoyed it which is the most important thing. However, this thread proves that there are some massive misconceptions around doing a cruise. There are some cruise lines that I would never, ever use again (mainly the British ones) but people really should actually try it before fully making their mind up on certain things.

The TV did them no favours at all - but then i havent seen ANY cruise TV show that sheds cruising in a good light IMHO.

The Susan Calman one is awful as was the Jane McDonald one.

On the VV one the production crew really went out of their way to make everything appear cheesy and crass - which - having been on 3 so far and a 12 nighter upcoming later this year, it isnt.

There was one guy in the show known as "The Foodie". They had him meeting guests arriving on the ship like an excited puppy. Bouncing about, clapping his hands, really OTT. We'd met him previously on Scarlet and he was a really nice guy who didnt get on like that at all.

The food is fantastic - a level above what most cruise lines offer, and they've won various awards for it.
The ships themselves are a good size, but have a boutique feel so you never feel like you're on a (relatively) large ship.
The entertainment is very different from the usual broadway show and comedian format. Again they've won awards for their entertainment.
The venues themselves are very different too - The Manor is in the style of a 1960s London Club for example.

They've won a load of awards actually and are continuing to do so.

You dont get those for being tacky / cheesy or for being a floating orgy ship.

Agreed. All cruise lines do not suit all people.

It would be fairly dull and boring if they did.

I like the fact that VV have brought something new to the market. I wouldnt want to cruise with them for every cruise we do, but we do like to cruise with them regularly.

We’re staying 3 nights in London before the cruise then flying home from Edinburgh. We could have got the train but didn’t fancy lifting the luggage on & off. Mrs BC doesn’t exactly travel light.

This ship was in Dundee at the weekend and caught my attention, the ship itself looks beautiful. Enjoy!
