Both Costa Calma and Morro Jable have epic beaches. My favourite is the lagoon part of Playa Sotovento. The beach runs for miles and miles.
However, there doesn't seem to be much there in terms of entertainment though there are many large and often expensive hotels.
We have been there twice in the last 3 months, stayed at the Melia, best part of the island IMO.However, there doesn't seem to be much there in terms of entertainment though there are many large and often expensive hotels.
Cofete worth the drive ............ as long as it isn't your car

I couldn't stomach more than a few days in either, to be honest. Caleta is also on the main bus route but is also a place where a week or two is more than enough.
You might be better hiring a car for a week ( around £100 through Autoreisen), touring the island and then deciding where you want to book for maybe a week. Buses are cheap, as you know so once the car goes back, you'll have carte blanche to move about without surprises.
Nudist beaches are just about anywhere. Nobody really cares.
I think I would be very bored in EC for more than a couple of days but people look for different things.
You might even consider ferrying to Lanzarote for some of your time there but I know budgets can be constraining.
Been here in EC for 5 weeks today. Best Jan I have ever had in the Canaries. Walks are very varied as are Restaurants etc. Short bus hop to other closer towns for walks etc.You might be better hiring a car for a week ( around £100 through Autoreisen), touring the island and then deciding where you want to book for maybe a week. Into my fourth week in Santa Cruz in Tenerife with another month or so to go in different parts of the island, and the weather is far far better than it was last year in Lanzarote or the year before in Fuerteventura.25c here most days and sat out on the balcony in T shirt and shorts at 9pm at night.

If you a family, drive in the city, get caught short and Cicar, Top or Autoreisen don't have a car its 700 Eur a week through Hertz for a small auto because they price gouge you for things that are free with the top 3.Also, goodbye winter, (all one week of it) and hello spring .

There have been times when I wanted to use Cícar and they have had no availability of any vehicle from Fiat 500 to something expensive.

We had that with AutoReisen last year, nothing at all, not even a premium car. We're off to Tenerife in the last week of Feb, booked it early December and even then they had no autos left so I had to go for a manual Hyundai Tuscon or similar Hi,
I was just about to press fire to Costa Adeje/Tenerife for our Easter break, but then a conversation with a friend made me check out other Canary islands too.
My early research is edging me towards Sheraton Fuerteventura Beach, Golf & Spa Resort in Costa Caleta.

Hotel seems decent enough, but are there any local activities / day trips geared towards kids (5 & 6) in or around Costa Caleta?
I am not really familiar with Fuerteventura at all, so I welcome any feedback from the more experienced travellers.

The closer you are, the bigger the risk and the more expensive it gets. Easy to reserve and simple to cancel, if you change your mind as you don't pay until you get there.Fuerteventura is definitely the best of the Canary Islands.
Not much happening anywhere on the island really but that is the draw for us. Anything south of Costa Calma is fantastic, hire a car for a week and just enjoy at your own pace.
Beaches that run for miles, great weather and good food.

Evening all - not much love for Gran Canaria on this thread? We are currently indulging our inner council in Playa de Ingles. Actually, really enjoying it. Kids love the hotel mini club, and we love the fact they love the mini club. The entertainment downstairs this evening is a Dutch singer, he's very good, I can hear him now as I type, back upstairs on the balcony.
Petanque every morning at 11am, I'm there early, stretching and warming up - love it!

We're returning to Fuerteventura for the forth time later this year. With young kids it's ideal, laid back, nice beaches and doesn't seem overly busy/expensive at the height of the summer holidays. I was just about to press fire to Costa Adeje/Tenerife for our Easter break, but then a conversation with a friend made me check out other Canary islands too.

We've stayed at Villas in close proximity to the Sheraton. It has a nice beach out front and small coves making swimming sheltered and safe. It's a bit a bit of trek for little legs into the main resort bit it's all flat running parallel to the beach with places to stop off for a drink.
Activities wise the ones that jump out are the zoo and the water park both would be a bus/drive. The water park we went to when we went in Easter the water was a bit chilly for our then 3 year old. We've always had a car booking ahead they're cheap and the local Canarian companies there's no hidden charges.
The Shearaton is regarded as one of the best hotels in the resort. There's a shopping mall which is 5 mins walk. It has some restaurants, and small fair ground, cinema, spar and a variety of other shops. Good Indian there.
There are a lot of nice restaurants in the area. My favorite is Algo Mas it overlooks the golf course above the resort and is 5 mins in the car from the Sheraton. Mostly our kids just like the pool and beach and don't want for much else we've previously only stayed in Villas which is my preference but the wife has overuled me as she thinks our daughter who will be 8 will want a bit more going on and potentially kids her own age to play with. We're staying in the Elba next to the Sheraton but one.
Caleta is nice resort IMO the marina area is nice, there's boat trips and excursions to book there. The beach there isn't as nice as outside the Sheraton. There's the usual fish and chips in the sun type restaurants if you want and higher end places with everything in between. There loads of kids play parks dotted about.
I'd give it a go. If you like the beach that's the main selling point over Tenerife and being more laid back. It is very close to the airport and you'lI see and hear palnes all day long. I'm starting to spend that much on holidays there it might be worth buying something.

Many friends of ours that own properties abroad, say it’s no holiday when you do visit, as you’re always sorting some issue out with maintenance, the local authorities or utility companies.

Unlike me, I booked it without doing much research, but your feedback is much appreciated. Good to hear there are a few family suitable activities, plus nearby restaurants too as I have booked B&B. It was only £350 to go HB, but having done AI (Turkey) and HB (Tenerife) last year, I couldn't bear eating in the same restaurants every night again!
