Going to Alua Suites in Correlajo on Sunday, AI but the cost was only £600 each so if the food rubbish will eat out. Weather looking good next week, we usually go to GC and I haven't been to GC for 30 years might have changed a bit! Flying with BA gulp. GC hotel costs seem to have gone up a lot in 2024 .

Booked flights at the end of February to FV. Strange how a bit of moving flights from Wednesday to Monday can pretty much half the cost.

FV tends to have higher cost flights than GC, Lanzarote and Tenerife but lower apartment costs so you have to balance it all and weigh up flight times as that can lose you a day.

Also juggle your car hire search as with Payless, it was cheaper for 8 days than 5.

As for AI, not for me. Fly cheap, rent cheap, eat out every night.

January and February tend to be decent weather but the wind can be a touch chilly.
I couldn’t agree more regarding All Inclusive, it’s just so not for me. I’d rent a decent place at a competitive price rather than some cheap unsuitable place with a poor ambiance and no pool.

We are going to Tenerife royal gardens in February, Marcello is contact name very professional to deal with, we viewed three of his apartments all spotless, picked one with best views.

Good location in playas las americas near beach and shops

eek You in the north ?
Yeah, where I am you trade less cloud than where you are for slightly higher rainfall and a couple of degrees C colder.

The biggest problem is that Spanish drivers freak out when it rains, the cars are beaten up, they breakdown too and thus its a good day to lay low, unless you are a recovery truck driver.

Make sure you check out the Hard Rock, I have been meaning to check-out the new(ish) sports bar there but my family like the RIU too much.

Just back from a very enjoyable week in Fuerteventura. Weather was 22-24degrees, wall to wall sunshine all week and only a gentle breeze. Stayed in an airbnb on the outskirts of Corralejo and spent the week enjoying the sun on the dunes beach and hiking around the volcanoes. Day trip down to the Wildlife park which was outstanding and also visited Ajay and El Cotillo.

Found a fabulous little restaurant - Sanus Fuerteventura - in Corralejo which is totally Gluten Free and also vegan and vegetarian to order. I have Coeliac Disease so don't have any choice! All in all a nice week away from the UK doom.

On the off chance that we do fancy venturing away from the buffet are there any 'must do's' in the area? scratchchin

Glad you enjoyed EC. We are here for 2 months.....our 3rd visit. its a lot quieter than 3 years ago, a few restaurants have closed but new ones, (in differant locations) have opened. As you say, weather from Xmas to a few days ago was hotter than usual....but this week its been windier/cloudier and cooler

Looking at a short break on one of the islands with a villa so will want car hire, which company has the shortest lines, last time we went Goldcar had a massive line and others had hardly any. Any recommendations are very welcome.

Fuerteventura experience.

Payless.es or Autoreisen.com (although, for the first time, the last occasion I went, the latter had a long queue, maybe the word is out).
Never have any problems or hassles with either company.

Cicar always seems to have a long queue. I figure the travel companies have a deal with them.

I always use Autoraisen, craps are a bit crap but no excess worries. I just booked 10 days in May in GC in a C3 for £110 which was a pretty good deal.

Cigar are the number one amongst the people that reside on the islands and that's why there is always a queue and they tend to be booked out.

Nothing wrong with Autoreisen though, it's just Cigar are family owned and have a big reputation built over many years.

Close but no Cicar rofl

Payless are the economy offshoot of Cicar and I have had a Cicar stickered Fiat 500 through Payless in the past.

might as well , it's a bit iffy weather wise for a few days but it will pass. weather has been incredible tbh.
Returned last week after 'living' in Icod de los Vinos for 5 weeks.

One proper rainy day in all that time. Washing dried on the line up on the communal roof terrace in an hour or so.

Totally Spanish town, no one spoke English, which was great as they still wanted to chat so forcing me to come out of my shell and actually attempt Spanish smile

Like the builder who insisted on chatting to me at Lidl and got his phone out to show me his work. As he scrolled I saw thumbnails of him having sex with a beautiful woman. I then met his wife in the carpark. Not the same lady yikes

Also, being amongst the locals, eating out and just stopping for a beer/coke/coffee was so ridiculously cheap.

I'm 61, hate the cold and grey and am now seriously thinking of retiring there asap. Luckily I have an Irish passport but might still have to find some work if possible.

I did drop a mate off at the Airport and went to the beach by Montaña Roja for a swim after. Then popped into Costa Adeje for a look and couldn't wait to leave, head back up into the mountains and stop in a proper café for un bocadillo y una cerveza. €3.

Reminds me of one of our visits where we decided to spend an afternoon walking down the front in PDLA. We found somewhere that didn't have a 'Sky Sports Shown Here' banner to sit down and and have a sandwich and a drink. I speak a little bit of Spanish, enough for basic conversations and ordering etc. So I ordered en español and then carried on talking to my OH in English. About a minute after, a chap from the table next to us leans in to us and says, in a very Essex geeza accent, " 'ere geez they speak English in here you haven't got to piss about speaking Spanish" hehe

Brits abroad eh! smile

I was a week into my stay before I spoke English to anybody.

Walking up near Teide, thick cloud and out of the mist a couple appeared in full walking kit.

The girl asked me in Spanish if they were on the right route to El Portillo.

I replied in Spanish whilst pointing where to go.

She then said in heavily accented English 'Do you speak any English'

We then launched into conversation, mainly me gabbling as I hadn't used my own language for a week.

They were Polish.

Later on the only English I spoke was to a French couple, two Germans and a Bulgarian man with his son.

You have been doing better than me with your Spanish - I am almost back to square one having not done any for ages.

Anyway heading to Fuerteventura on 6 Feb for 3 weeks so time to try and get back up to speed.

Weather looking rather pleasant as well
