Yes at 50 kph over the limit, so you would have to be pretty stupid to risk that, knowing that is how it works.
"Stupid" - that's a bit rude / unnecessary.

You obviously have a different tolerance for / attitude to risk than me, but that doesn't make me stupid any more than it makes you a fraidy cat.
Nothing to do with 'tolerance for / attitude to risk', I see being able to travel to a foreign country as a privilege, not a God given right. So when I do it I try to treat that country and its laws/inhabitants with a bit of respect, I don't go into arrogant nob mode (not saying you did) and start a sentence with well I spend my money there so I can do whatever I want. I wouldn't want people coming over to the UK doing it, so I don't go abroad and do it, simple as that.

If you look at the fine structure above it very simply says two things:
If you go over the speed limit up to 50kph over the limit (110mph on the motorway) and you get caught it will cost you.
If you go over the speed limit by more than 50kph we don't want you here, no grey areas.

I am more than happy to drive in France within those constraints, which is far better than what we are stuck with here in the UK with our cone infested roads with loads of traffic on them.
I like driving in France and have done so many times over the years. The driving there is noticeable slower in recent years.

The parking however is a different matter…….

I do remember seeing a group of gendarmes, just outside Calais on the D to Saint Omer, stood around a tripod obviously trying to assemble it so they are present on the NSA’s.
There is a very large police training school in St Omer.. activity in this area is higher than usual thumbup

The roads are great in France and Germany, Belgian roads not so much.

Anyone know the German laws, I think I was flashed last week doing maybe 40 kph
in a 30 zone in a village on the Alpine Scenic Route.

Fixed cameras cant be charged anymore as they cant access the Reg Data base.

I notice that you don't explain / apologise for calling me stupid
I think anyone knowing the penalties today for getting caught doing more than 50kph over the speed limit in France then chooses to do it regardless is IMO stupid.

If that offends you maybe you should look at your attitude towards driving at 140mph in a country that welcomes you to visit, rather than be so arrogant as to think their rules don’t apply to you.

Where's the arrogance? I got caught, I paid the fine. I am fully aware that the rules apply to me. You appear to want to make me out as some kind of pariah - I wonder if there's more to this than meets the eye?

If you cannot already see it I doubt you ever will.

I quite like high speeds - having raced at Le Mans a couple of times, owned a Murcielago and a Ford GT (amongst others) for many years. I may not have your rich motoring experience, but I'd say it is possible to drive across France quite quickly.
Put down again. How can I possibly compete with those credentials? My neighbour is deperate to go to France. I am negotiating with him.He pays any fines I might get. At the moment he is reluctant but we will see.
Props to you Zed for the graciousness.

Anyway, I arrived home in the autumn of 2020 and received 6 penalty letters over the course of the next few months for speeding offences committed across France. No idea if it was me or my wife who was the offender or more likely both of us but I made pretty damn sure I was aware of the speed limits the next time I went.

Having said that, it was a glorious trip down to the Pyrenees, across to Avignon and back up through the Côte-d'Or. Is there a more glorious country to drive in?

The only people who drive that much over the limit these days are the ‘go fast’ running their product up from Spain.
Why would you risk drawing attention to yourself if you were doing something illegal.

Well in that case it's a good job that I don't have my GTR anymore and haven't gone to Spain since 2018 and I'm now stuck with a crappy Mercedes SLC and on the basis of this thread unlikely to go to either France or Spain.

Back in 2018 I got a speeding ticket in France. After that I swore I would never take another driving holiday in France again and I never have. Macron's ridiculous speed limits of 48mph on route national and D roads make a mockery of driving enjoyment never mind covering any distance. Or am I wrong? Do Les flics still hang about behind the bushes waiting for the unsuspecting Brit? Oui ou Non.
To go back to the original question "Do Les flics still hang about behind the bushes waiting for the unsuspecting Brit? Oui ou Non." No more so than any other european country looking to stop speeding. I've just come back frow a quick dash from the SW of France and on the way down I only saw the boys in blue once(3 of them all on bikes) on the other side of the auto route about mid morning on the A10 outside of Poitiers looking for speeding holiday makers on their way back north! But that strech of auto route is notorious for the boys in blue. All of my trip I used WAZE and it told me all the locations of the speed cameras, So I just slowed down for a minute. I was doing about 135KMH and so were most other cars, Only one other UK car overtook me, the rest that overtook were either French or Dutch and the odd chocolate.

Harry seems still think it's a good place to go driving. https://youtu.be/6zkJ1fj4ZlA?feature=shared

Where I live they don't need speed cameras or cops the geriatric drivers maintain an average speed limit of 47 miles an hour and a 60 MPH zone. I only go to the shops. If I go to the city we take the bus. Exciting eh?
