Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what Troyes is like to stay for a couple of nights?

Travelling from Verdon / South of France back to North Wales and wanted to stop half way ish but don’t know anything about it?

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

Troyes in nice with a lovely medieval centre but I’m not sure that there’s lots to do for a couple of days, maybe one day there and then head bit further down to Beaune or Dijon for the 2nd night

Troyes is nice but as said perhaps not too much to see for 2 days. I would head a bit further north and stay in Champagne country Reims or Eprnay Plenty to taste see

If you choose Epernay then it's nice but be warned that it totally shuts down in the evening.

We stopped there last year when travelling south, arriving in Epernay in the late afternoon. When we went out for dinner we found it was dead. The champagne places were closing their gates by 5pm and there wasn't a single restaurant open. It meant our first night of genuine French cuisine was a pizza from a late-night kebab shop. hehe

We’ve stayed in Epernay a few times now on the way back from the South of France (and are back there in July). I haven’t noticed the town shutting down at night - you must have been in the wrong part of town - OK it’s not exactly buzzing as places are spread out but there are few decent places to eat & drink if you hunt them out.

Troyes is the capital city of outlet shopping (Marques Avenue / Marques City) but you will struggle to fill more than a day. We used it as a stop between the Alps and Calais as the wife doesn’t like being in the car too long.

We have used the Campanile on the south side a couple of times and at least it got refurbed - the chain started the refurb programme about 15 years ago and were doing 3 a year so I reckoned I would be dead before they finished.

Another vote for Beaune. Avoid Dijon if your car can’t get a crit’air sticker (basically any classic).

As others have said, great place for a stop over but not sure I'd call it a destination.

You said "a couple of nights" so why not do "a couple of stops" instead? If you like wine make your first stop a little further north in Reims and a spot of Champagne tasting, then your second stop further south around Beaune/Macon way for some Bergundy? Of if wine's not your thing one night on Troyes then the second down Lyon way?
