It might sound off but we are skipping St Sebastian this year and spending a few nights in Hondarribia instead. We have been before and really enjoyed it, feels a bit like St seb for locals in a way.
7 minutes in a water taxi to France, Hendaye specifically.
Hondarriba is great , and small enough to have to offer better tapas than San seb , it’s a little hidden gem but I suspect for not much longer , we loved the place . Unfortunately it was just a lunchtime stop off for us as a tester but we shall return .

Interestingly San Seb airport is actually in Hondarriba, it may be a good alternative as I've not yet confirmed a booking for the former yet. The airport looks quite central, is there a lot of overhead noise? It might make a great base for 3 or 4 days to explore from.

If you haven’t been to San Seb before then I would definitely say go there this time as it’s an experience, you can always do Hondarribia next time around.

Logrono has been mentioned and I’d also recommend a night in La Guardia which is close by, it’s a tiny walled town with lots of small pinxo bars and many wine cellars (caves) some of which are open to visitors and the hotel in the square has a cool little bar in theirs.

Incidentally, I never heard anything from the airport when I was in Hondarribia last year, spotted a couple of very low planes but nothing within the town areas.
