Blimey so why have they closed the escalators and why are there no stairs ?

I see the issue as it’s a way from bag drop to security.
Surely carry on luggage though you can carry up stairs ?!

I used fast track last summer. Probably 4 people in the queue compared to 40 !

Made no difference as the flight was the last of the day and was delayed.

I flew out of BHX on Monday lunchtime. It was completely fine, I walked through the terminal & into the lift, then straight through to the queues at security search. Total time elapsed from entering the terminal to clearing security approx 20 mins. I had added an extra hour just to be on the safe side, so had plenty of time twiddling my thumbs in Pret.

Apparently the queues earlier had been horrendous, so I wouldn’t take my experience as representative of flying out at the weekend or during the early morning peak period.
I arrived there at around 9:30am and also breezed through without any issues.

The escalator (and the monorail from the train station) both arrive in the middle of the construction zone so they have installed these temporary lifts just outside. There is a staircase too but I am not sure if it is still usable.

I fly a couple of times a month and quite often from Birmingham, it’s a local airport that’s trying to be something it’s never going to be. Going back to the question sometimes security is a nightmare sometimes it’s a breeze. I always buy the speedy pass it just removes the uncertainty and reduces my stress level.

BHX airport security are a bunch of incompetents with far too high an opinion of themselves. Too many examples to list here but I've yet to find one with even basic courtesy or any concept of what they are supposed to achieve.

Dropped my wife off at the railway station yesterday, 3+ hours ahead of flight time expecting the worse.

We live 18 miles away. She text me to say she’d got the tram over to the airport, checked in and through security before I was even home.

Oh st. Any ideas when they're supposed to finish?

Is there any Brit airport that's doing it right*? We used Gatwick a few years ago and really wished we hadn't...

* I want to say Heathrow, but I think I'd need to wash my mouth out afterwards...
I use Gatwick fairly regularly and I'd say it's generally the quickest out of all the main UK airports. Often queues in security just a few mins.

Arrived at BHX today around 1.20pm. It’s a complete st show!

The queue for the lifts stretched 4 deep the whole length of the airport right up to where the old BA check in’s used to be. Police everywhere as people are going to get frustrated.

The steps/elevator at the far end is for Jet2 passengers only.

The 4 escalators can’t work at full wack because security is backed up upstairs. This is the new improved supposed to be faster system. It isn’t and a large amount of bags were being sent down the ‘open it and check’ line which was full and preventing the rest of baggage getting through.

Fortunately I had bought fast track so walked to the front of the queue in front of the escalators. Upstairs there was a quicker line through security. It still took us an hour to get through.

The police were advising people to buy fast track at the airport.

I think a few people will miss their flights today. Whoever is responsible for planning this need to lose their job.

Flying through BHX tomorrow - anyone know if it's still carnage? We're flying with Jet2 late afternoon to Ibiza, planning on getting there 3 hours early and spending the afternoon in the Lounge.

I travelled from bhx on Wednesday. I arrived at 4:30pm for a 5:30pm flight. I got through security in about 10 minutes. They were using a new security area with the new scanning machines so we didn't have to take liquids and laptops out of our bags.

A good hint is that if you have already checked in then you can get directly to security by taking the monorail from the station.

As above, Jet2 have a separate entrance to Security past Arrivals and M&S.

Yeah seems issue is 2 lifts only to get to security rather than the stairs and escalators as they are working on it.

Disgusting they are charging for fast track when it’s their fault.

Good advice. Get dropped at BHI station and take the monorail to avoid the lifts!

Cheers all, we got the airport about 1 15 and were through security about 30 mins later. A few queues but they moved fairly quickly and didn't end up being any worse than the usual BHX experience.

We did park at the station and get the monorail across, sadly we had bags to drop so couldn't go straight through, so walked the length of the airport dropped our bags and went back. Didn't see a dedicated Jet2 security entrance but the main one was fine.

All the scanners seem to be up and running so security itself was a breeze.
