Okay. Look, does it matter who the ruddy quote's from? As I said, I don't believe it's an original anyway. The fact of the matter is that for all your cat-calling you've done nothing to dissuade me that Surrey isn't ghastly; I'd hazzard a guess you live there.
It does matter in that you were wrong but can't simply admit it, yes. At no point have I ever tried to dissuade you from your opinion because as I've repeatedly said, with a chip on your shoulder/hang up/prejudice the size of the one you're carrying round, it would be impossible to do so therefore I haven't. Just as I haven't offered an opinion on Surrey but keep digging...
Okay, if it will make you feel better. I admit the quote is Clarkson's, as used in his Sunday Times column. I was wrong 100%. I apologise wholeheartedly and without reservation and ask that it is accepted in good spirit.

I'm similarly sorry you think I've a chip on my shoulder because dare I disagree with you on the subject of a countyn I dislike for entirely valid reasons. The only person to make any sense and enter into a proper debate with me so far has been Swerny. You and Smart Alex are simply a couple of pompous oaves parroting the same nonsense. You were quite happy to tell me all about myself, so just to let you know I see you as Tim Nice-But-Dim but with a crabby attitude.

I don't see where I haven't made sense. And unlike you, I haven't insulted you personally. Your views stand out, as your beef with Surrey appears to be with sort of people who choose to live there, rather than the place itself. All your insults are class or wealth based. Whether intentional or not, it comes across as envy.

I'm just off on my commute home to my leafy Surrey village...

+1, although I visited in less than auspicious circumstances.

The bit round the harbour is nice, but then drive no more than 5 blocks and you're in the "projects"

Fells point was Ok though.

I don't like Surrey either. Over the past 10 years or so, I have spent a lot of time there due to family living there. In my opinion, there are too many class obsessed, wannabe posh, wannabe country, vile Londoners who have MEWed their nuts off to be able to afford the latest X5 / Cayenne etc just to be able to nonce about cruising round Guildford.

The roads are cramped, slow and full of the rudest drivers I have ever borne witness to, many of the towns are ghastly '70's abominations centered around an old high street and there is very little truly open countryside with far-reaching views.

Hampshire, Wiltshire and Berkshire are generally much nicer, much more open counties with a depth of character that Surrey could never achieve through the influx of new money ex-London types.

All IMO of course smile

Full of ex steel worker Jocks, who perpetually scowl at you.
On the other hand, this could be the future MP for the area ( I assume she's not an ex steel worker)

The only thing nastier than the word commute is the act of commuting itself. And as for saying "leafy", well, you defy adequate parody. If use of that word does not make the sick rise in the back of your throat then you are probably not human. Why is it that leaves are seen to imbue some sort of golden utopia? Explaining that concept to you would be about as easy as explaining the abject hideousness of "Surrey" to the other drones on floor nine. I truly hope that one day you'll come to your senses and have a gestalt shift on the road to Domestos.

My Ex's Dad lived and worked in 'Nam, Dag'nam.
The best bit of the town was his steel yard. The rest was just so nothingness, it just slid off your memory like a wipeclean plastic tablecloth.

I find most towns in the UK pretty depressing to be honest, but I've grown up in small 'picture perfect' villages with lots of open countryside which has jaded my view somewhat.

I now live in Hove, or 'Brighton & Hove' and I quite like it here. The roads are mainly wide, tree lined with plenty of open space just out of the centre and the main shopping strip isn't too bad. Being near the seaside helps too!

Still, there are many areas within the city boundaries that are depressing enough!

I prefer old towns which haven't been overdeveloped within the town centre area, I like towns to be small and non-industrial (or limited industrial capacity) and close to the open country side. This is why I love many parts of France and northern Italy.

We agree on one thing at least. Commuting is a pain.

This thread is an excellent example of why PH needs an "ignore" function...

And I have more candidates:

High Wycombe - a dismal place.

Windermere - lovely scenary but a chav paradise.

Luton - a complete dump with no redeeming features (although people I've known from there have always been pleasant)
