Guildford.

Poorly planned, over-priced sthole, populated by people so far up their own arses they can barely see out of their sphyncter to drive their X5 / Rangy / Cayenne.

I really, truly dislike Guildford
Oh come on, its isn't that bad, you need to have a look on your own doorstep to see a truly ste town..

Havant, I worked there for a year, thankfully now finished. The horrors in the town centre put the natives of Dundee to shame wink

Runcorn, Widnes, St Helens, Oldham, Bolton, Preston, Chorley, Warrington, Kirkby, Birkenhead, Ellesmere Port, Chester, Deeside, Prestatyn, Wrexham, Runcorn again. Burnley, Nelson, Colne, Blackburn, Runcorn again, Keighley, Runcorn again, Manchester, Maccelesfield, Knutford, Stoke on Trent, and Runcorn again

All of these places are NOT WORTH a trip out, but Runcorn is TOP of the worst Northwest Towns in my humble oppinion.
The centre of Chester is ok within the wall, no idea what the other bits are like. Knutsford has a wierd mix of super rich and rough as you like. I grew up near to Warrington and it has a certain charm! Home of kerry catona.

I was brought up in the arse end of Cheshire, the north bit bordering Lancashire. Its a world away from the southern Manchester part. Infact going to a wedding in Prestbury (Rooney lives there) next week which might be interesting. I am expecting lots of ladies called Ginny, Lydia and Sophia.
I had the pleasure of growing up in Runcorn, I also had the pleasure in getting the fk out as soon as I did! Grim town but some characters I grant you. No idea what its like these days haven't been back there in over 10 years.

Any town which has rapidly evolved over the last 50 years, to become a brick/concrete commuter town. If a town has a few hundred years worth of history, then thats a good start.

However, I'm a country boy through and through and therefore dislike any 'built up' places by default.

Anywhere in the NW - Manchester, Bolton, Blackburn, Burnley, etc, etc, etc..... what is it about that part of England - everywhere, and I mean everywhere, is an utter hell-hole of a dump. There is absolutely no classiness or style of any sort in that part of the world.

And they all speak funny.

Totally agree with you. Basingstoke is complete hell hole. I think I mentioned it on page 3 or 4 or this thread.

To expand on that, No matter what you are told, there is nowhere good to live in Basingstoke. The whole town is a complete sthole that really should be avoided at all costs. It is a truly hateful place to spend any amount of time.

Having spent 3 years living there (Chineham, Sherborne St John & Up Nately), we finally escaped during late 2007. I would rather cut my balls off than comtemplate living there again.

Town Centre: Chav infested sthole with more 14 year old mothers than you could ever wish to see. Totally ruined by the soulless shopping centre, Festival Place.

Popley: Utterly awful cahncil estate

Chineham "village" (pah!): The most twee place going. People here are "executives", as they might have made it to the dizzying heights of a Vectra 2.2

Lychpit: Otherwise known as stpit. Nasty legoland housing estate

Old Basing: The original part of the town. Would be quite nice, if it weren't utterly spoiled by having a main line railway cutting right through the middle. Oh & it's a rat run of epic proportions, so clogs up easily in the mornings

Winlkebury: Makes Popley look like utopia

Hatchwarren: If they can't quite afford Chineham, the execs go here. Characterised by Astra diesels

Kempshot / Buckskin: On a par wtih Lychpit

However, there are some nice areas within a few miles of the town that will stem the depression associated with living there. These are, namely: Odiham, Kingsclere, Greywell, Upton Grey.

However, Guildford just grates on me for unfathomable reasons.

ETA. How do you know where I live? Are you stalking me?!

Actually, I was wrong up there. The answer is Gillingham. Grim poverty like I've never seen before.

Ugh Hull today....rough, just rough and pikey!

An old lady was sat on a bench next to me and made a comment about a slapper in furry boots walking past, I then pointed out she had dropped chips on herself and they were stuck on her collar and blouse, ha.

We had this convo before. And I mentioned I was from very close to Upton grey. (Herriard)

But I agree with your points about Guildford too.

I remember now. Herriard & Upton Grey are absolutely lovely. We used to often cycle over to the Hannington Arms in UG for lunch when we lived in Up Nately. Unfortunately, it has a witch of a hill to cycle back up after a few pints of wifebeater on a sunny afternooN!!
