I stayed here. 4* Hotel. Secure underground parking, just off the Champs Elysee next to the the Place de la Concorde and the Seine. Walking distance to Louvre, Eiffel Tower, etc.
Rooms a little tatty but large.
Got a great deal by booking through a hotel booking website. Missus was happy. Job done.

I have recomended this here a few times but Sofitel La Defence.
On the map it looks a little way out, but in truith its 3 or 4 stops and less than 10 minutes on the metro (one line) to Opera / Louvre / Rue Rivole / Champs Ellyse etc.
Rather than the rabbit hutch hotel rooms you get in the older quarter you get decent modern rooms at a good price, and if you have an AMEX card you get very good discounts too.

Booked it through Eurostar and chose it as it's only a few minutes walk from Gare de Nord and not far from Gallerie La Fayette and L'Opera. Near the Cadet Metro station and it seemed clean and good value. Four of us, Eurostar from Ashford, three nights hotel, £650 during half term. The metro is much cheaper than the tube and very efficient. We'd use Eurostar/L'Ocean again.

Last time we went, we stayed in the 9th - otherwise known as the Latin Quarter in this hotel:

Its a design/boutique hotel (so its small!) but its very very cosy and I have never stayed in a hotel quite like it.... they are also able to pull some strings; they got us decent seats at the Moulin Rouge on a Saturday night with only 24hrs notice, weekend nights are usually booked up 2-3 weeks in advance.
You definately get what you pay for in Paris.

Lol?
Nah that one looks a bit fruity for my liking. I don't want to have to stay in any room that gets referred to as "the prune room".
Cheers for the input though!

We went in December and stayed here:-

Right opposite the Louvre and a better location you could not ask for. That said (even allowing for the fact they were renovating the main entrance and so everyone was having to use a side entrance) I'm not sure it compares well with many of the 3*s I have stayed in, let alone 4*.
Learn the Arrondissements as this will help you get your bearings as you walk around. Having a good idea of the location of the 'main' touristy places will also help you navigate your way about. We walked miles and didn't use the Metro but that's just us!
Plan on going back in the next 12 months to see the Dali gallery we missed and Versailles.

Yeah it's easiest to remember it as a snail or "escargot" isn't it? From what I remember at GCSE anyway.
That place is a little pricey for me. We're looking at going away a few times this year and I'm desperately trying not to go mental with it...
I think renting an apartment might be the way forward to be honest.

Have a good look on the Eurostar Website. They were very reasonable in the end. 1st Class Train there and back, 4 nights in the hotel and it was just south of £1,000.That place is a little pricey for me. I didn't have much choice when I was looking though as it was a surprise for the g/f and the only thing I asked her was what facilities did the hotel have to have. She said a swimming pool and steam room or sauna. Have you any idea how many hotels in Paris have swimming pools? I think i found 6 that weren't the other side of CDG!

£680 = For travel and 4 nights half-decent accomadation is bargain IMO. It works out about the same to get the train to London and stay there..
