I'm considering booking a 3 night stay here over Easter, been quoted £720 for the 2 nights in a 1st floor suite with views over the estuary and with dinner b&b which isn't too bad but for 3 nights away still a lot of money to me. Has anyone stayed here before or know of the hotel? Whats it like? Is it worth it? I know it's in a good location for the Snowdonia national park and the castle etc. but is there anywhere cheaper/better you'd recommend instead?

I almost stayed there last November, it seemed ok but I was unsure. In the end I opted to stay in one of the two best 'luxury' rooms in the Royal Oak in Betws-y-Coed which was fantastic. Getting into the en-suite whirlpool bath with the missus and a bottle of champagne after a long day of walking up, down and around Snowdon in crap weather was bloody lovely....... thumbup

Betws-y-coed lovely town - esp outside the main season when it's a bit quieter, very picturesque, good choice of food and shops, excellent access for the National Park.

I live about 100 feet away from the Quay, and to be honest its vastly over priced for what it is and the area, as said before me the Royal Oak would be a better bet, it's cheaper, a lovely drive and you have the option of seeing Snowdonia one way or comming over to Conwy the other.

I can heartily recommend The Princes Arms in Trefiw. It's about halfway between Conwy and Betws, great food, and nice people. If you're after Conwy itself, the Castle Hotel used to be good, but I understand it's changed hands now, and I've not been there since.

We went to the castle hotel a couple of years ago for valentines. T'was really really good, great restaurant as well.
I've always fancied here as well: http://www.groesinn.com/groeshighcabin.php

I've used the Castle in Conwy quite often when on business.

Nice restaurant, bars and very quaint and charming rooms.

I do wish they would get rid of that door knocker on their website though! One thing I forgot to mention is that if you phone, they will often do deals better than late rooms etc. Go for a superior room or a suite, there lush.

I always got a superior room for the standard price because I was a repeat customer.

Thanks guys - I think I'll cancel the Quay in that case. If I'm going to pay that sort of money I want something at least a little special. I'll check the other out tonight.
