I'm liking the 74/181cm they've got for Obergurgl at the moment. Not so keen on the apparent white out on the webcam though. Actually, that said I'd like as many blizzards as they can manage for the next week. Then clear blue skies and moderate temperatures the week after.... smile

Back from Claviere/Montgenevre after a superb week with snowfall most nights and fair amount of sunshine in daytime. Piste skiing superb and off piste good (not been cold enough for real light powder tho'). We left resort Sat morn with blue skies and another 150mm of cover. Anyone there this week looks like having perfect conditions.. couple of shots of tree runs just because i thought they looked cool smile

Avoriaz on Saturday = Wooooop!

Snow forecast this week . . sun all next week

If it was me i would love the snow, but the mrs and a few people (who have never been to mountains, all begginer / intermediate) would be happy if it were sunny so keeps them from winging!

Due to lack of time for anything else, a couple of us are heading up to Scotland this weekend for a few days.

Looks like I am going to miss a my next trip to Austria in a weeks time due to the fact that the other half needs a serious operation. And just to rub it in a friend sent me this video of me losing it after hitting an unseen bump, the result of which was the tail of my new board snapped. It was lucky I did not spear into the trees. That was £500 down the drain frown Check the damage at the end of the video:

Didn't seem like much of an impact I'm surprised it broke the board. Looks a bit like my Board (Palmer Crown) but couldn't make it out as your camera crew was a bit rubbish! What board was it?

It was a Burton T6. You cant tell from the video but I was going at a GPS verified 75kph at the time of the crash. It did feel bad at the time

Just got back from Val d'Isere, following a weeks skiing/wallet raping. Had a great weeks Spring skiing, the weather was good with clear blue skies. The snow base was very good, though starting to slush a bit in the afternoon as the temp is getting up to 10c.

There was an English guy in residence at 'Follie Douce' and 'Moris' Pub who was quickly working his way into a six-figure bar bill. The night before we got there he picked up a tab of £27k at Moris. Last Sunday at Follie Douce he was throwing out all manner of Champagne to the crowd, and managed a very healthy £61k. Rumour had it he was going through a messy divorce and was giving 2 fingers to the soon to be ex-wife.

Try and avoid the restaurant at the bottom of the Sache (Les Brevieres), unless you think €22 for a burger is fun. Try The Loop or Tignes Cuisine by the Aeroski bubble in Tignes le Lac for good grub/service, avoid the f*cking dreadful but appropriately named 'Cafe du Pain' next door a truly miserable experience and surly Frogs at their very worst.

On the subject of kit, Sport 2000 (opposite the bus stop near V.spot bar) were just going into sale with 40-50% off all the latest skis/boots, all 2010 top-line kit. As has been recommended before 'Ski Republic' were a popular choice, wished my team had gone there instead of Snowberry. Where, for the pleasure of handing over almost £1200 for 9 sets of mixed ability skis we were treated to indifferent service at best and the displeasure of dealing with the granite-faced hag in charge. I really can't recommend Ski Republic enough.

All in all, superb skiing but the pricing is becoming very painful with a 6 day ski-pass costing €218 and a pint at upwards of €7. I skied in Austria at Xmas and the service/value/experience was a lot better.

Hope you all had a good, safe season. smile

SHHHH!

Don't tell everybody, or it'll get harder to book....

This was my 27th year skiing, I've been all over the world, loads of resorts in Europe, but will always end up back in Austria. I was there for 6 weeks this year, and can honestly say I've never been treated better anywhere else in the world. The people are a little straight to the point sometimes, which can be taken as 'surly', but it's just because life is relatively simple. It's like this. Just get on with it. Thoroughly nice people, who made me feel absolutely at home. Doesn't hurt to learn a bit of German before you go, just to be friendly!

Just booked a chalet in Tignes Les Brevieres with 6 friends on the 13th March. Really looking forward to it, though slightly concerned that I have forgotten how to snowboard (last went 2 years ago).

Anyone been to Les Brevieres? I know its a bit small, but we got a bit of a bargain....
Great in 'Brev at the moment with good snow right to the Sache bubble . Can get a bit icy tho at lower levels. Quick acess into the Espace Killy and loads to ski/board.
Night life maybe bit limited compared to Tignes or Val d'isere, and dont eat at the resteraunt opposite the lift unless you want a second mortgage.
Too true, and here's the proof. irked

We paid this..

For this...

Though it has to said, this was one of the many shaftings you're likely to get skiing in France......

Just come back from 3 days skiing at Tahoe, USA. 3 resorts, favourite was Squaw Valley.

Probably the most beautiful place I have ever skied. Empty runs, great technical off piste.

Problem was conditions. Weather was perfect - but too warm. So by 2pm, the snow was slow and sticky. We would have been disappointed if the whole holiday had been based around skiing; but we knew that this would be the case, so spent afternoons snowmobiling/sailing.

This as part of a holiday that also included wine tasting in Napa and Sonoma, Redwood forests, San Francisco and mountain biking in Marin.

Not many places you can go skiing in the morning and saiing in the afternoon. Fabulous. I am in love with Northern California, and would seriously consider moving there if the opportunity arose.

That was a bargain! We were in Val D'Isere a few weeks ago, and paid €29 for a cheese burger at the Brussels hotel restaurant at the bottom of the slopes! eek

if its a new board, get in touch with burton they are brilliant at warrenty stuff i dont think boards should break like that, and when/if you get a replacment sell it and buy a K2 fastplant when they come out next season, they have a bamboo core and a 5 year breakage warrenty on them!

Burton did admit that it should not have snapped and they have replaced it with a new T6

Italy (Claviere) loads cheaper. A coffee from a proper machine 1.10 euro.. Would be 3.50/4.00 in Val
