I returned from yet another 'new' country this morning and my mate and I got to thinking about how many we've been to over the years.

Based on countries I've actually visited rather than just transferred through or re-fuelled in I reckon I'm up to 24. As a balance too let us know which countries you've visited (if you can remember of course wink) and also how old you are because visiting 24 countries in 60 years isn't on the same scale as 24 in 18 years for example. I'm 23 so basically one per year on average for me!

So let the willy-waving commence with my list wink

43 in 31 years. Aiming for 100!

In terms of countries per year, I doubt anyone can beat my daughter. She has visited 10 countries and is 1. Anyone beat a 10 / year ratio?

Standing in both hemispheres at the same time (Ecuador)
In the middle of an active volcano (St Lucia)
Drinking whisky with glacier water, on top of the only glacier in the world that feeds three watersheds (Columbia Icefield, Canadian Rockies)
The Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman, where the stones fit together so precisely a piece of paper cannot be inserted into the cracks

A remote school in the western Serengeti (the bit with no tourists!) delivering sports kit or sitting in a remote village getting a puncture repaired using a bike pump later the same day!

A random supermarket in Bosnia on Thursday. We were driving from Dubrovnik to Split and decided we should at least stop for a drink as we passed through Bosnia!

"Your daughter's so fat she's a country?" Seems a little harsh.

weird in many peoples eyes: Chernobyl

...but it's 'just' work.

genuinely weird: village in Mexico where soft drinks have got mixed with religion, so you are Coca-Cola or Pepsi rather than Protestant/Catholic/Muslim etc!

(23 countries)

22 Years old, 24 countries

UK,
France,
Germany,
Holland,
Belgium,
Luxembourg,
Lichtenstein,
Austria,
Switzerland,
Spain,
Italy,
Vatican City (?)
Greece,
Macedonia,
Serbia,
Hungary,
Czech Republic,
Poland

Sri Lanka

South Africa,
Namibia,
Botswana,
Zambia,
Zimbabwe

Been on a rail trip around Europe though and a road trip around Southern Africa so notched up lots those times.

Weirdest place must be a random cassette shop in a Botswanan village in the middle of nowhere, asking the owner to preview various tapes by playing them in her ancient tape player.

Next place: China on a 125cc bike!
