I got 33, the std Western Europe stuff, and S E Asia, but includes
a few no one has mentioned;
Sudan
South Sudan
Ethiopia

Sudan has incredible pyramids that you buy a ticket and a torch and go in on your own, feels really creepy 'tomb raider' stuff,

A cursory glance through these lists suggests that South America is the lonely cousin out there, getting relatively few visits.

Wonder why that is...

Too far?
Too vast to decide where to go?
Not known enough?
Poor image (drugs or whatever)?

Any thoughts?

True enough! Always been on my 'one day' list and by the flip of a coin I ended up coming to Asia instead. Other times it's been a bit of a combination of all of the above.

Just back from Patagonia where I added Chile and Argentina. Think it's the distance and cost of flights. Far East and USA are often a lot cheaper on sale despite being long distance too.

13 countries for me at 28, but didn't leave the UK until 20 I think. Will be adding Japan in a month or so.

USA
Argentina
Chile
UK (Scotland, Wales, England)
Norway
Sweden
Denmark
Estonia
Latvia
Spain
Monaco
France

Unfamiliarity with the people, lack of any kind of comfort and knowledge that very few people speak English combined with the distance, I would guess.I went to Peru and I think it took almost 20 hours to get there and during our time there we only encountered a handful of people who spoke English.
Also, whether we admit it or not, we all find comfort in being somewhere where other British people are. Not in the Benidorm sense, but just in the sense that if other British people are there you know it's okay

Namibia and Botswana camping trip with Explore. Quite possibly the best trip I've been on, especially the Namibian part. One of the few places I'd like to go back and see again.

A few pics if you're interested. https://www.flickr.com/photos/jcross/albums/721576...

Looks like an amazing trip. FUll marks for photography too. I didn't notice any pics from the Skeleton Coast- did you reach as far as there?

Thanks, Swakopmund and Warvis Bay was as close as we got and the Skeleton Coast runs for a few hundred miles to the North from there. It was quite chilly there compared to inland. I've heard the best way to view the Skeleton Coast is by plane as there's very little there but desert.

So up to 23, but I've got a bit older too...
