That's 47 I can remember and some of these have been visited several times.
Since then I can add

St Lucia
Aruba
Curacao
Grenada
Cuba
Vietnam
Cambodia
Malaysia

So that's 55 now. It would have been more if Covid and failing health hadn't got in the way the last 3 years.

Thought it would be a good time to revisit this at the start of a new year!

Obviously COVID got in the way a bit but since I last posted at the end of 2019 I've been to the following:

Zimbabwe
Bulgaria
United Arab Emirates
Portugal
Italy
Greece
Germany
Cape Verde
Kenya
Ireland

New ones are in bold

By my count that takes me to 34 in total
Last day of the year is as good a day as any to update my list. This year I've been to the below, new ones in bold. Up to 36

I have definitely now reached the point where this will slow down a lot as there are a few places I keep going back to rather than going somewhere new

No plans for 2024 yet

Italy
Switzerland
Italy
Morocco
Thailand
Spain

29 for me, though skewed slightly by the fact I lived in West Africa for 3 years and the Middle East for 5 so plenty of work travel.
Private travel has almost always been to the USA (I've toured extensively through 47 states) so other countries have taken a bit of a backseat.

UK
EIRE
France
Germany
Belgium
Switzerland
Austria
Solvakia
Netherlands
Italy
Portugal
Spain (Canaries)
Finland

USA
Canada

UAE
Bahrain
Qatar
Oman
Jordan
Iraq
Kurdistan

Singapore
Malaysia
Thailand

Tunisia
Angola
South Africa
Seychelles

Planning to add at least 2 more in 2020 with trips planned to Kuwait and Russia, hopefully might squeeze a Euro trip in there as well.
Well Covid nixed both Kuwait and Russia, in fact it killed all my planned travel for a couple of years in the end so the only addition in 2023 was Luxembourg, though I did manage to tick off the 48th contiguous state, having been stuck on 47 for 8 years!

I'm not sure what 2024 will bring, though I'm hopeful of plenty more travel

However, all at my own expense, too dim to get anyone else to pay.

I added 2, Thailand and Chile. I’m pretty happy with that, Chile was an incredible addition, a beautiful country full of wonderful people and exceptionally good wine. 2024 promises another visit to South America so let’s see what happens but I fear my number has stalled somewhat.

12 this year including 6 new ones

China - Best Asian food I've ever experienced, people were so friendly

Denmark

Taiwan

Norway

Costa Rica - One of my favorite countries ever, did two weeks touring East to West then North to South.

Latvia

Total just above 50 now, going to have a quieter travel year this year focusing on European Road trips.

I clearly have some catching up to do.

UK
France
Italy
Spain
Switzerland
Germany
Austria
Greece
Turkey
Croatia
Slovenia
Ireland
Russia
The Netherlands
Trinidad and Tobago
Canada
USA (New York, Seattle, California)

That's 17, and I'm 22.
Well in the 3.5 years since I wrote that I can add 6 more to the list:
St Lucia
Barbados
Grenada
UAE (Dubai)
Hong Kong
Jordan

So up to 23, but I've got a bit older too...
Another year, and I can add:
- Kenya
- South Africa
- Vietnam
- Malaysia
- Belgium
- Portugal

Up to 29.
One year on, and this year I can add to the list:
- Zambia
- Zimbabwe
- Saudi Arabia

Up to 32.

Slightly disappointed that it's only 3 new countries, despite 95 flights. Theoretically could add Qatar and Bahrain, but that was only transiting through. I didn't even make it to the USA once this year.
Another year, another 2 new countries, so now up to 34.
- Malta
- Egypt

Have one more new one planned for 2019 already (Singapore)
In 2019 I added Singapore to the list, and in 2022 I added Morocco, so now up to 36. No new countries in 2020 and 2021.

I should be adding at least one more to the list in 2023, but I suspect it’ll be 2024 before I hit 40 countries.
2023 I added Thailand to the list, and also realised I’d forgotten Lichtenstein from and earlier year.

So now up to 38.

Only just as it was in February 1991. A school trip to Moscow and Leningrad. Quite an amazing trip and it did feel as though things were bubbling away under the surface.

i'm looking forward to the james may india travelogue. deffo recommend india but makes a massive difference if you have friends there to arrange things. i had an awesome time, can't wait to go back. i have a standing invite to go volunteer at the Gurdwara Bangla Sahib! if i had one of these digital nomad jobs i'd be in jaipur already though, wonderful.

as for listing them alphabetically, there are various apps you just check the box where you've been and it spits out the list.

For 2024:

Back to Zimbabwe and Zambia again next week, USA for the first in April - visiting universities with my daughter. Argentina in July, USA again in August.

As I'm 60 now, I don't think I'll be adding a many more to this list - maybe in S America. One country that I have really wanted to visit for a few years now is Somaliland - I think I may have to go and ask forgiveness afterwards rather than ask permission before - I was checking flights/accommodation there earlier today.

My daughter is determined to visit as many countries as possible - I think she will get over 100 by the time she is 30.
