From what you describe, the road/transport hasn't changed massively!

Just a small query - Would anybody care to confirm that Olu isn't "Chav Central" please?

There was a wide range of people there when I was there. Fortunately the more "chav" families with screaming kids etc. were left at the airport!

There is plenty of places that will do you a full enlglish breakfast, fish and chips etc., and plenty of places selling tat too. Also as someone mentioned Shadows bar, which seem to cater more towards that market.

However, there is also some lovely places to eat, great scenery, quiet/more upmarket drinking establishments, and especially if you go over to Fethiye, more "traditional" surrondings.

Nothing overly chav though. It certainly wasn't 18-30 style when we were there!

Thanks Dave thumbup some great tips mate.

We're at the Alize Hotel which has a 4/5 rating on Trip Advisor. Although frankly it was the most available hotel at short(ish) notice on Teletext holidays where we got the booking.

Will definately be doing some activities but not sure jumping off mountains is my thing...hehe

Again mate - thanks for the recommendations!
We stayed at that hotel last May,over all pretty good except the food got a bit monotonous after a few days and you need to eat early as it tended to be luke warm if you didn't get to the restaurant when it opened .

One of the nicest holidays I've been to when we went there.

All the people are very helpful, sometimes too helpful when they want you to visit their shop haha, some good bargins to be had if your willing to haggle with them, they expect it.
We didnt see many "chav families" while we were there, it was mostly young families and couples of all ages.

One place I'd highly recommend is the beach bar, they get out bean bags and tables and put them out on the beach at night, you can go and sit out with a drink, its very relaxing. They also have live music some nights too. lovely!
We often went to the help bar for food, the lemonade there is something we craved when we came home.

When we visited the lagoon, it was a beautiful place to visit, worth the walk. we noticed you get the locals sitting in the bushes! they dont rent the sunbeds so they stay in the shade round the edges, dont blame them.

we intended to go back this year but when we were booking our holiday it was the time when the ash cloud was worst and we decided on St Ives instead, slightly different!!!

enjoy your stay there smile

(forgot to add... dont forget your £10 notes for your arrival into turkey, they expect you to put 1 £10 note in everyones passport. They wont except a £20 note for 2 people either! they dont give change.)

This will be useful for me as well, as I'm heading out in that direction next Thursday for a wedding!

Do you need anti-malarials?

I went to the local surgery for my Turkey Jabs last week and an anti-malarial wasn't on the list - and the Nurse administering the shots had the list on-screen in front of her.

Excellent, although I've not had any jabs at all! What did you have? I suspect I'll be covered from previous trips, but now I'm worried. wink

We had jabs for Turkey when we first went in 97 , didn't really see the need for it when we got there . Been back several times and not bothered with the jabs since.

Nice one!

First impressions?

The reason I ask is that mrs k & I have almost decided on Olu for next year (we must see more than Italy and Vassiliki)

I would add, having just come back from Icmeler this morning, Olu Deniz is a lot smaller.

Brilliant - you'll love it. Perfect for couples, no gangs of roaming pissed-up brits, lots of restaurants etc in fact there's a really cool beach bar for the evenings where you sit on bean bags drinking cocktails or whatever and watch a fire show...very surreal, almost 1960's like.

Downside is you'll know the whole of Olu in 2 or 3 nights. However, going back to the restaurants, I can't believe how many of them there are! Almost every other building is a restaurant. Clearly all-inclusive hasn't really taken hold of Olu yet as it can be the death knell for local restaurants.

It's also soooo pretty - I'd certainly go back.

PS: The Lagoon is overrated though. Looks awesome from the sky, but not so much from the ground

Paragliding, as has been said, is a MUST and is not scary at all.

Some Pics:

The Take Off point at (approx) 6,700 feet:

What a view!

The Lagoon:

ps: Thanks to everyone for their input - I tried almost every restaurant/bar mentioned on this thread and didn't dislike any of them.
