Well I'm curious. Will all the equipment fit? Will it be a sheet of ice rather than powdery snow? I look forward to the pictures. hehe

Weird! I did the one in Dubai last October - was quite nice just pottering aro9und on my own. I was the only one on the massive piste for anbout an hour - all the Indian/Phillipino tourists were riding the chairlifts and not skiing, and all the Emiratis were buying expensive drinks in the bar and just enjoying theview ofthe snow! Eventually a couple of European expats turned up, but that was it.

Ni hau, can-I-have-the-biggest-boots-and-rongest-skis-you-have-please....

I can quite honestly say, I have absolutely no idea whatsoever. The only thing I'm certain of is there will be some sort of surprise. I expect they'll all be bloody experts now, and totally shatter my illusions.

They actually ski in the mountains in China, although it's pretty limited, and obviously winter only. Maybe I'll find an excuse to pop back for that some time.

I had plans for a summer trip to Japan, Oz, NZ, Chile in a couple of years (bit of a round-the-world ski trip), but this really does take the biscuit.

Fingers crossed nothing will scupper the plan, I'm genuinely looking forward to this!

I've got it. It will be perfect in every way, but it will be flat. No hill to ski down, but they will still have a button lift to pull you from one end to the other. You then have to slide to the other end. biggrin

Yes, you've got it. It'll be perfect snow. Fresh, virgin powder. Fluffy, white virgin powder. The things dreams are made of. The sort of snow that you would kill your sainted Grandmother for.

But perfectly flat.

Or something.

I have no idea yet, but iPhone 4 at the ready, video, picture, you name it, I'll have it.

The only down-side, is the people I'm supposed to be going with I've just been out with too, it's 3.30 am, we're all quite pissed, and have only just made it back to the hotel.

So watch this space.

Sort of.

I may well not make England proud.

Sorry.

Well that was interesting. Basically a small to medium sized snowdome with a button lift (Doppelmayr have nothing to worry about).

Slightly odd in that there was a fairly large ice sculpture park in the same part of the building, that didn't really serve any purpose, just for fun.

I have a picture of me standing next to an ice-shoe sculpture, that's about as weird as it got. Disappointed really.

A heads up for those heading to Tignes/Val etc, roads are closed with meters of snow falling. 5/5 avalanche alerts (closed down lifts) possibly for the next few days 16/12/2011 onwards.

errrm au contraire mon amis... road to VDI was only close sporadically over night for blasting, but yes Les Boisses to Le Lavachet was shut fro a few hours late yesterday afternoon/early evening due to avalanches.

Well, after my bloody nightmare apartment being cancelled at very short notice, I think I've finally managed to find another one....

Just waiting for confirmation about the total, then I'll be having a little cheer to myself.

I did exactly the right thing, and found an apartment for the season back in April/May, all booked, deposit paid, job done.

Chap contacted me very late September to tell me unfortunately it was no longer available, which meant me looking for an apartment, for the season, in October, which is far too late for Kitzbuhel, which is booked up for months in advance.

I'll be starting another thread about our toboggan adventures, but suffice to say, my old office has been temporarily turned in to an aluminium workshop!

So, skis/boots are coming out of the loft next weekend, along with roof bars, clothes, and all the other kit, to get ready for the season. It's all fun!
Where are you going for the season??

I have a few days in China at the start of the year, then out to Kitz again.

Seriously considered Whistler, but not being able to have family and friends come out easily, scotched it.
