It still takes it off at the end even if you don't go back.

You lot are way off the mark. Rather than hitting the 'back' button, select the 'Cancel Payment' option, and voila, free shopping. Easy innit.

My mate uses the self scan at Tesco.

He sticks a few bottles of whiskey in his bag but doesn't scan it. When he gets to checkout he waits for the woman to come over and when it says if there are any items you can't scan he says "oh, I might not have scanned some chocolates" she then says ok let's look, and he then sees (as the purchase list) scrolls past and says "Oh yeah there it is!" And she's then says "You're a ok then" and walks off and after he pays off he goes!

Apparently.
At many of the supermarkets I go to the staff just clear the error and walk off! Notable exception is Boots where they seem to reset the transaction and help the person rescan the items.

Interestingly today the local Sainsburys had 8x Irn Bru for £2, but it scanned at £3.15. I showed the guy a photo I had taken two minutes earlier of the shelf and price (don't ask) but he still had to send somebody back to check, which took ages.

Speaking of people using trollies at the self service, I realised that the '10 items or less' tills have all vanished, I assumed that's what the self service was for, but its never mentioned\displayed. I would have thought that would have been the point, small shops go through self serve, big shops, use normal till.

That's a bargain for Irn Bru - I'm off to Sainsbury's now!
