'Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radiorécepteurs et Téléviseurs'
Good post. I did not know SCART, I guess this illustrats why the correct use of acrenims and full form is helpful in technical writing. At the end of a long meeting, having read many supporting documents I asked what LOPA stood for the other day and no one could tell me. Timid drivers.
Fer gawd's sake.
Approaching a mini roundabout at the head of a queue of cars last night, there was one lone car coming the other way indicating right. It was her right of way and I might have got across but nobody behind me would have so I did the decent thing and stopped. And there we waited.
She approached the roundabout and stopped too.
And there we waited.
Come on, girl, it's your right of way. Look, we've all stopped for you. There are two parties involved here, you and us, and we're already stationary. You have right of way. Can you see that? We're all sitting here waiting for you.
And there we waited.
If it was a film, the drivers of the first six cars pointing my way would have got out, walked over to her car, lifted it up and carried it across the roundabout.
Sadly, it wasn't a film.
Timid drivers. I tell you. They're more exasperating than aggressive drivers.

People who include pieces of jargon or obscure initials in their posts, presumably becuase they can't be bothered to explain themselves properly, or to show their mastery of the subject.
Indeed. Why, I was only watching a Digital Versatile Disc on my television in order to test the new High-Definition Multimedia Interface cable I had connected it with (the 'Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radiorécepteurs et Téléviseurs' cable having proved a little poor on quality) when my mobile telephone rang. It was a fairly poor signal, but fortunately my aforementioned mobile telephone dropped out of 'Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network' mode and into 'Groupe Spécial Mobile / Enhanced Data rates for 'Groupe Spécial Mobile' Evolution' mode and it was fine then. But I digress. It turns out that their internet connection wasn't working. I asked if there was a problem with their 'Asymmetric digital subscriber line' connection, or possibly their Internet Service Provider, but it turned out that they had inadvertently mis-configured their Internet Protocol address and it was easily fixed.
Anyway, on to the subject of your annoyance. Perhaps the person on question credited you with the intelligence to understand what they were talking about and felt that it would be patronising to explain things to you that they assumed you knew?
In the spirit of the thread:
Drivers who are excessively polite. FFS, just get on with your own drive, take your priority and get out of the way. The worst kind are those that stop and flash/wave you across when you are waiting to turn right into a side road. It wouldn't be so bad but they are invariably the last car in the line that you are waiting to pass. If they had the slightest clue about their surroundings they might realise there is nobody behind them and it would actually be easier for everyone if they just carry on and GTF out of the way.
I'm all in favour of courtesy and politeness. But some people take it too far.

The road, and roundabouts especially, only need rules, not pleasantries.

CRs
Change Request which cannot be facilitated without a CRF.singlecoil said:
Good. Now we come to the context, something which was ignored in the tediously long and unsurprisingy unwity response earlier. If one was on a contractors' form, where I expect the subject of change requests (odd expression, in the States it's 'change order') comes up all the time, then using CR would be entirely justified, desirable even. But when one is on the business forum talking to people who might not be contractors, then the use of such initials is covered by my earlier post.
I'm not going to get into that debate, however, we call it a change request as business over here is conducted politely. sleep envy said:

On the contrary, I was suggesting that the communication was made in context and that the person had credited you with some intelligence and/or contextual knowledge. The irony is that, had they provided the extra information you seem to want, you'd probably be the first to complain about people patronising you by telling you stuff you already know.
Still, I'm sure you thrive on the conflict.
(I'm looking forward to some direct personal abuse on your reply to this rather than a snide reference - it's your MO after all. Sorry, I mean Modus operandi.)

The moderators would't allow me to say what I think of you.My MO is to post about the things that annoy me, yours is to continually and persistently take issue with stuff other people post, especially me. That time you laid off me for a few days was quite pleasant, but now we are back to the same old same old. I'm not going to let you drive me off this thread.
