One of the workshop lads has been working in the office this week, hence he's wearing formal shirt and trousers, rather than his workclothes.

One of the older engineers saw him and loudly declared "Blimey Joe, I didn't recognise you with your shirt and trousers on"

I've been reading a lot of early Biggles books recently. Unfortunately, the meaning of certain words has changed since they were written. Consequently, phrases such s "..'Good grief!' ejaculated Biggles in surprise.." now raise a bit of a snigger
