I was talking to Sam Bird in the summer, he said Lewis was generally Ok, however did have off days where you just couldn't approach him. t A colleague is good friends with someone who works for McLaren, he wasn't very complimentary about Lewis however said Jenson was a proper, normal and very approachable guy who was happy to spend time and talk to any McLaren staff as a normal staff member.
As great a driver as he is, there is just something about him that makes him come across as a tit, its not his mood swings or when he gets the hump as I can appreciate when you are a top flight sportsman you are competitive and you are there to win, it's just how he looks and dresses when he is in his civvies, particularly when he wears that ridiculous, thick gold chain when on the drivers parade.

Ok, fair enough and granted. And, just ignoring the fact that Lewis is a young black guy who is just different from us middle-aged white guys in style and dress sense, let me ask you this. Could you imagine rocking up to Senna and expecting him to be your mate? I can't. I can imagine Gerhard Berger or Niki Lauda being a laugh, but I can't imagine Senna being so. Some drivers are less approachable than others. Button is a thoroughly decent bloke. But Hamilton is slightly more driven and aloof. Different people are different. Who'd have thunk it?

I respect his ability as a driver and I respect the fact that he's of a culture and age that I cannot comprehend or connect with. So I let him get on with it and don't try to understand or judge him. I think he is incredibly insecure and well and truly lost surrounded by 'celebs' equally as insecure as he is. He needs to go back to his roots, ditch Nicole and the PR. Find someone more genuine and his own age and then win another few championships. No doubting his skills it's his mindset that lets him down.

I am of the same age and culture (English). He's good at F1 yeh, but comes across as a tit. He drives a car for a living, I know for a lot of money but really, who does he think he is? He has an awesome job, loads of money and a nice looking girl friend... And yet he comes across as some unpleasant, self important tosser.

I'm sure I probably come across as a tit too and I earn a fraction of what he does. If I earned what he did, and was surrounded by the sycophants he undoubtedly is, I doubt I would be any more or less grounded than he is. So, as I said, I don't judge him. JonRB said:
