Just a postal mailshot (every six weeks?) with latest offers. No web catalogue.

I joined just to buy a specific TV that I wanted, they sold it at 400 less than the high street stores. Pretty much all the savings are down to bulk purchases (as you'd expect) so the issue is transporting and storing the goods.

some things like balancing from £8.40 a wheel and free nitrogen inflations for tyres seems a decent service for members.
If you have a tyre size they don't do (they only do mitchelins) they will fit and balance them for £7.50 a wheel, if you have trade membership. I found this out because they don't do 145/70x12 or 195/60 x 14

Well I qualify for membership, but the nearest place is an hour and a half away. Damn!

My branch is an hour away. After the initial buzz, three or four visits a year is all you need.

You know when you arrive at the entrance, they make you show them your card but barely look at it? It's not a card check; it's simply to make your forward motion pause long enough for the laser scanner to fire a brain programming shot across your forehead to ensure you spend a minimum of £100.

Doesn't matter how little you intended to spend, if you're caught by the scanner, and it has a 98%+ sucess rate, you will spend over £100.

Fact.
Ah that explains it, i thought it was my lack of will power whilst in their "warehouse of dreams"...

My brother is a member and we often go to the Reading branch. Washing powder, and a barrel of crunchy Skippy peanut butter....plus the sample stalls also get a visit. Agree with the meat comments, worth a trip at BBQ time!

Batteries - 36 pack Duracell AA for around £11, bargain. All the Duracell packs are great value.
B and Q have 18 packs for £5.49, same price, no membership fee!

Not that I'm knocking Costco they do have some good value lines, but I dropped out because I spent so much there. Bought stuff I would never have bought if I hadn't gone in, and paying a membership fee for the privaledge.

Selected professions can join as individuals either that or you have to have a company.
Why the elitism with certain professions for individual membership though?

Fair enough I suppose but I just think it's a method which is a bit dated. You get scutters in all walks of life, even those 'chosen' by Costco.

Oh, and before any asks, me and the Missus both qualify.

Spectacles are a bargain. You have to buy things when you see them at Costco, because if you go home to think about it you'll probably miss out. I have bought some great bargains there over the years. Didn't see any trolley jacks at Watford on Saturday, but going back again next weekend and will deffo try the pizza!!

So what's this

"Special Invitation to a Breakfast Event at your Costco Warehouse on Sunday 26th February 2012 9:30 - 11am"

that I received by post this morning all about then? No other information at all - just a ruse to get me to go and spend a couple of hunded quid? Or is there really something special going on?

I think they get a number of suppliers to put manned stands up to engage with the punters. My branch is at Lakeside, which is just always busy. It was quite nice when I popped into the Bristol branch on my way to Cornwall and they seemed to have such an event running.

I think that there are opportunitites for business customers to showcase their businesses on occasion too.

Always think it's a bit strange that they stop you and check your receipt on the way out, how come they never do this in Tesco etc? That said, I can recommend the meat, good value and usually very good, especially the pork fillet. Bulk tea, coffee, sauces, wine, beer and bog roll, I'm in.

The trolley’s are much bigger (so easier to stash stuff) and some of the goods are worth many hundreds/thousands, as opposed to mainly food stuffs etc at Tesco’s. You aren’t going to stroll out of Tesco’s with £4ks worth of tellys on a pallet.

To delete the scan programme. Else you'd spend over £100 in every shop you went into.
