I think it is like pressing the "door close" button in a lift or that button to activate a pelican crossing (after the first press).
Feels good to hammer away at it but doesn't achieve anything.
Why do they need to be activated anyway? Does the cashier check you aren't doing this?
Or are they waiting for the OK from ANPR?
All good questions! Feels good to hammer away at it but doesn't achieve anything.

Not doubting you, but would be good to also hear from anyone who has worked in a petrol station too. I need to know 100% that I am going through the petrol station at the fastest pace possible!

Are there any 70s Top of the Pops shows that don't feature a sex offender?
Peter Powell, Noel Edmonds, Ed Stuart, Kid Jensen, John Peel, must be loads of others*. I don't know who was presenting last nights re-run, I haven't watched it yet.No more 'now then now then, jingle jangle' !
When I have been waiting to pay,the bong in the kiosk seems to go off regularly till the guy behind the till sorts it,I imagine its so if they are off stacking shelves or having a pee,it keeps going till they do some bloody work!
I suspect its manually activated so they can check its all OK before dispensing, not having a 12 year old pumping fuel into a jerry can as I saw the other day, watched by his dad!

When you go to fill up your car at the petrol station, and you have to wait for the pump to be authorised.
Does the check out desk make a bing bong each time I pull the trigger to the fuel gun, or just keep repeating a bing bong after I pulled it the first time, or does it just bing bong when I first pull the gun off the pump rack thing.
Thanks
Worked in a Tesco petrol station for a short while in mid-90's it's probably changed since - the trigger does nothing unless the pump is active - when you lift the nozzle there was a bong and a light at the desk - they're meant to check a few things before they turn it on - the nozzle is in the filler or appropriate container, the customer isn't smoking, using a mobile or obviously drunk, retarded etc etc, but a busy station can have 20-30 pumps and pretty terrible visibility so most staff just hit the button without a second thought - different at night, the one I worked in was in a quiet little town and the store itself was tucked away in a quiet little brownfield area - still it seemed to be a mecca for mentalists and wrong 'uns - was pretty happy to lock the doors and open the hatch at 9pm.Does the check out desk make a bing bong each time I pull the trigger to the fuel gun, or just keep repeating a bing bong after I pulled it the first time, or does it just bing bong when I first pull the gun off the pump rack thing.

Anyway, if you wanted to piss the staff off into turning the pump on quicker you could replace the nozzle a few times, but it used to cause havoc with the tills recording 'nil sales'.
All changed now, most 'pay at pump' pumps are open all night in an otherwise unmanned station - I guess they just rely on ANPR and CCTV to ensure the money is safe, as for stopping a suicidal lunatic from using the pump as some terrible, admittedly very short range, flame thrower not much use!

I did wonder if it gave them a chance to check if the car before had paid, also?I suspect its manually activated so they can check its all OK before dispensing, not having a 12 year old pumping fuel into a jerry can as I saw the other day, watched by his dad!

Gun off the rack, I think.Does the check out desk make a bing bong each time I pull the trigger to the fuel gun, or just keep repeating a bing bong after I pulled it the first time, or does it just bing bong when I first pull the gun off the pump rack thing.

I just stand there holding it looking like a plum until the pump starts whirring.
I never bother pulling the trigger before that.
Final question though - does lifting the gun set of repeated bing bongs, or does lifting it just light up the light on their monitor and give one bing bong? If so, does pressing the trigger do anything further?
I kinda want to know that if I put the gun in the filler neck and keep repeatedly pressing the trigger, I can wear down the check out person enough to activate my pump ASAP!
Every system will be activated by the nozzle leaving the rack, but there the similarity ends. Some just continually beep until authorised, some just utter a single chime then flash until authorised, but squeezing the trigger does nothing as it's not connected to anything electronic.

So the actual water in a boiling kettle will always be less than 100 degrees C?
The water in a kettle will reach 100 deg C and at that point the water will begin to turn into steam and evaporate off. Therefore the water cannot achieve a temperature of greater than 100deg (at atmospheric pressure). The only reason a kettle would not reach 100 deg would be if the thermostatic switch was set too low.
I think for roughly every thousand feet above sea level boiling point is a degree lower.
So presumably boiling a kettle in holland would take longer than in switzerland

Peel definitely shuffled off at the right time to preserve his legacy
If there are things out there it doesn't stop people coming forward.Savile had been dead for some time when the allegations started and snowballed. The fact that it hasn't happened to Peel suggests to me he probably didn't do anything.
