On a plane why do they dim the lights when taking off and landing at night?
Interior lights are supposed to approximate outside conditions so your eyes can rapidly adjust in case of an emergency. TheEnd said:

Anyway, if you wanted to piss the staff off into turning the pump on quicker you could replace the nozzle a few times, but it used to cause havoc with the tills recording 'nil sales'.
Might have to try that...P-Jay said:
All changed now, most 'pay at pump' pumps are open all night in an otherwise unmanned station - I guess they just rely on ANPR and CCTV to ensure the money is safe, as for stopping a suicidal lunatic from using the pump as some terrible, admittedly very short range, flame thrower not much use!
How short is "short range"? Was Point Break accurate do you think?Spanglepants said:

When describing decades why are 'The Forties" spelt without the U.The other decades are spelt the same as the number (someones going to point out something very obvious now)
The Fiveties says hi.Or if you were just meaning the tens of numbers, what about twenty, not twoty, and thirty, not threety?

I had always wondered why you would be electrocuted if you stuck a metal fork in a toaster but could place a metal fork on a electric hob ring and the fork would just get hot!
It was so obvious when someone explained it to me!
Good - explain it to me then cos I'd love to know!It was so obvious when someone explained it to me!
I've killed about 4 toasters in my time so this information would be useful

The electric hob ring/element has the conducting wire inside stuff (a metal tube filled with sand I think), but the toaster uses open wires which you can touch with the fork. I think.I've killed about 4 toasters in my time so this information would be useful
Mrs Scouse, for some reason will choke, 2 or 3 times during a Chinese meal on Pak Choi or similar veg.
Bearing this in mind, should the situation become "critical" would my fingers/hands leaving bruising around her neck/throat be enough to convict or could I argue that I was attempting to assist in her expulsion of the object?

Why not just kick her in the clunge for the same effect ?Bearing this in mind, should the situation become "critical" would my fingers/hands leaving bruising around her neck/throat be enough to convict or could I argue that I was attempting to assist in her expulsion of the object?
