On the subject of toilets - who in their right mind decided to install movement sensor toilet flushing devices? WTF!!!

You are sitting on the bog snapping off a really good portion when "FLUSH". You move slightly and your undercarriage gets a big wash and you virtually jump to avoid it - if the log is still attached it can be quite unpleasant.

FFS, movement sensor flushing - do not want!!!

It says dogs are one of the few animals who understand the concept of pointing.

In some ways we're regressing.

We've evolved over millions of years to have a large brain. In order for this to occur, intelligence must have been seen as sexy. Those with the highest intelligence attracted mates and got to reproduce. They used their brains to ensure the survival of their clever children. And the generations got step by step cleverer.

But across the world today, the less educated have more children. Whilst the more intelligent you are, the less children you tend to have. So perhaps we'll get thicker!
Clever is better not because its "sexy" but it helps you catch food, and avoid being food.

I fear it is already too late : the "we're being outbred by idiots" meme was alive and kicking before C.Darwin, and that's a fair few generations ago now frown

I subscribe to the theory that there is a fixed amount of intelligence on the planet, and you get your share at birth : the ancient Greeks produced so many great thinkers because there were less people to share the intelligence among.
The creative flowering after the plague decimated europe is now obvious : the survivors' children got a bigger share of the intelligence pie.

I'm afraid it's all downhill from here until the earth's population stops growing.

No-one yet knows if colonising other planets will increase the total intelligence pool - if so, the first child born on mars will be worth watching!

I can point and send my dog in that direction. However, they do need to be taught that - when you first point, they just look at the end of your finger.

Yes, of course you're right. More clever people made it to breeding age, by catching food and not being eaten by sabre toothed tigers. It still may be the case that of all the males that made it to puberty, the girls would discard the lucky thick ones that had managed to make it that far, so clever may have had an element of sexiness!

I haven't fully developed the theory, but with all of history to choose from, and some dodgy statistics, I can make a convincing case.

I'm sure there's someone at work you could try it out on wink
