Why does a gust of wind "take your breath away" (same thing I recall as a kid standing out the sunroof driving down the motorway in dad's Volvo) struggling to breath in. Didn't think it could be an air pressure thing as wouldn't have thought there would be that much of a pressure differential (its been a while since fluid dynamics classes thou)...

If they didn't demonise communism, it just might have caught on.

The agenda is set by those with power and money, but these are a tiny minority.

If the downtrodden masses get the gist that their sorry lot might be improved by Communism, there is sown the seed of the revolution.

Which is definitely not on the agenda of the agenda-setters.

Propaganda, communism was portrayed as the great evil, enslaving it's people and making everyone poor and unhappy, some of it's true - but it's totalitarianism rather than communism per-se that enslaves people - but the Yanks especially tried to portray communism as a sort of virus that could be spread from person to person and region to region.
No. Did you miss the Berlin Wall falling and the propaganda machine going "Oh, Ah, well, it's been a bad week"? Communism is inherently slavery to the state. That is why anyone with a brain tries to leave. That is why the borders get closed. And the totalitarianism. And also why it is expansive - so there is nowhere else to go. Which makes others want to point missiles at it.

After a thread in GG, why do we say something has "given up the ghost"?

Because once its broken its "dead" and has released its ghost?

If you believe in that sort of thing...

If clouds are just water vapour, when wind blows, why does the cloud move as a whole rather than just blowing all the vapour all over the place?

When the wind blows the cloud is effectively in a moving box of air with the wind acting on all parts of the cloud equally.

Why is film music so much louder than the dialogue? To the point that I need to keep the remote control handy so as to not annoy the neighbours, while at the same time be able to hear what the actors are saying to each other.

Maybe because the left and right channels (which mainly carry effects, music etc) are too loud relative to the centre channel (which carries dialogue)?

Some AV amps also enable you to independently boost the dialogue channel which could help if you have a relatively decent AV amp (or are willing to buy one.)

Was a ghost the sign of someone being in purgatory, neither dead or living but in an 'in between' state? So giving up the ghost would, effectively mean you are no longer in purgatory and are 'fully' dead?

Reminds me of an old joke:

Q. What's the difference between my wife and a gun?

A. You can put a silencer on a gun.

A normal TV has stereo speakers, two channels, while most movies are six channels, down mixing to stereo has some weird effects.
Can also be that adverts are recorded in two channels and sound louder on a stereo set up than down mixed six channels.

The dynamic range needed to convey from the quietest whisper to the loudest explosion in a movie compared to the dynamic range needed for a conversation needed in an advert means that once the sound is normalised, the conversation in an advert is "louder".
