If we measured fuel by weight instead of volume, would diesels still be regarded as more economical?
My guess is yes, but only slightly. 9.3 Miles per Kilo = 30MPG petrol or 35MPG diesel.

I didn't know there was one. It might be from checking tyre pressures when hot, and letting air out if they seem high (which is from the heat)

Better yield management systems means there is less inventory to be dumped. I wrote the early deal software for Thomson (fluid pricing) about 15 years ago, as far as I know it is still in use but the configuration gets better and better every year. They also spent millions on demand management software from manugistics to help ensure there is no distressed stock.

I heard years ago that the ceramic bit of a spark plug can shatter car windows by just throwing a small piece at it. Is this true?

I saw a Police, Camera, No Further Action years ago where some ne'erdowell was found to have a pair of socks and some ceramic chips in his tracksuit pocket which were described as the tools of a car thief, so I'm going with true.

The ceramics in spark plugs are incredibly tough compared to glass, thus break it easily. Example
