It really does illustrate the need for a list of preapproved names like they do in Norway

Thats only for baptism.

It's bad enough attempting to pronounce Terje and Silje for the first time, and there's bloody loads of them.

I can't find the link now, but my wife showed me a page about the number of American kids called 'Unique'.

Amongst the (sadly not unique) spellings were things like Uneek, Yuneak etc.

On 'Take Me Out' recently (i know, i know but the OH likes it and i think its kind of funny when a guy gets rejected by everyone or is just left with the fat chick and has to go on a date with her banghead)

There is a girl, of african origin i believe, called 'Nike' pronounced (nicky) The amount of trainer/tracksuit related jibes she must get i cannot comprehend.

Would you genuinely not take someone seriously as an adult if they had an unusual name? It's probably the one thing you can do nothing about (changing your name seems more ridiculous somehow) so if my lawyer etc. was called 'Ziggy' or something, I'd not give a st. It's just a name.

Conversely, would you be unable to do business with someone from a foreign country who had a 'funny' name? A French bloke called Michelle, for example, or would you shout "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA - THAT'S A GIRL'S NAME YOU IDIOT"?

Find this odd, I must say. It's just a name.

(Please note, I wouldn't call my child Mydnyte but I wouldn't really give a fk if someone else did)
That's fair enough but let me ask you this; if you ran a business, (maybe Engineering or another skilled business with say government contracts), and you were interviewing candidates for a job with you and had got the list down to two equally suitable people who would you choose? One is named Stephen, the other is named Mushroom. Whoever you hire will be responsible for emailing/writing to potential/current customers.
I know I'd pick the one without the wacky name.

My wife went to school with some plankton, who called her sorry offsproing Le-a. Prenounced "leadasha".

I pity the poor kid, will end up a fat unemployed leech like the mother no doubt.
Remarkable.
