Listening to sky news thismorning. They mentioned that the government were thinking of taking some bank holidays off of us.Due to how much it costs the uk. We already have less than other countries. Lets face it we work 47 or 48 weeks of the year to have 4 or 5 weeks off now is that realy fair. Next thing we are goin to asked if we would give a months wages to help repay the countries debt. That would be a good debate would you. An other thing the government are moaning about lossing taxes on bookleg stuff . Make things cheaper SORTED .

I've been thinking the same thing for some time.
The population at large seem to be getting increasingly selfish and ignorant. 'Britishness' seems long gone.
NZ please.

Sadly you are not alone. Whilst my skills are transferrable it makes it very difficult for me to want to stay here, it is literally only friends and family that keep me here.......

You're not the only one thinking about it.
We're back off to France in July looking for somewhere to live/earn a living.

You've obviously not spent any time in many other parts of the world.
The UK is far from perfect, but it still streets ahead of 95% of other countries.

I've lived in several countries.....I think it's getting worse here though, but then again the question is, are other countries getting worse? From what I am being told Aus/Nz are also becoming a bad as here with the bull***t and stuff..

"we work 47-48 weeks of the year"...."I do a 12 hour day".....hear this a lot. Do we work longer but not smarter in the UK? Dunno.
Just spent a month in Oz. Never been before. Before I went, I'd heard what a fab place it was, better quality of life, working smarter not longer, etc.
I really enjoyed it over there. Cannot fault the weather, the slightly more laid back, relaxed attitude, the friendly people and so on.
That said, friend was on her Blackberry on Sunday answering emails, was working 12 hour days and generally appearing just as stressed as she was when in the UK. Oz is a very forward thinking country in many respects, but quite backward in others - big campaign on at the moment to move away from battery farming (where Europe was 10 years ago). Double glazing doesn't seem to meet Oz building regs so houses are single glazed (draughty!), nice rear wheel drive 50 bazillion horse power cars but 80km/h speed limits etc. etc.
The grass will always be greener, and yet it always won't be. If you're in the position to do so, I think it's great to go and work/live abroad for a bit and broaden your horizons.

Sounds like a good way to make the UK better. Carry on

OP, you might want to look at countries which won't require you to learn a language - you clearly haven't learnt English yet.

The UK is far from perfect, but it still streets ahead of 95% of other countries. I am with you here.. Recently spent a few days working in Southern Ireland, and there was a major revolt on the go... The Government had recently introduced a 100 Euros tax, to be paid almost immediately by all house owners. The public were going mental, if the radio reports and signse for demos are to be believed. (I think this was just a one off tax, might be wrong, but basically their governments pot was empty) The grass is not always greener and all that.

I live in Germany, it's quite nice, but so is the UK. The bacon in the UK is better. The, er, cakes here are better. I pay more tax here. But I get paid more. etc. etc.
everything is a balance.

I've been thinking the same for about 15/20 years. No family or friends that would keep me here but unfortunately no skills of any value.
I always wonder when I hear experiences of others who have lived abroad and those that could afford to live anywhere they wanted and yet they choose the UK. I guess they are in a far better position to make an informed decision that I am.
I would love to give it a go, but without any skills I'll have to stay put until I can afford to retire.

Next thing we are goin to asked if we would give a months wages to help repay the countries debt. Right, OK then, I can see how that follows... Would that really be your tipping point, an extra couple of days of work a year? Think you need to look at the bigger picture.

It has just been a slow news weekend and its a great story to get the working man's back up once more.
I thought the gist of the story was to 'space out bank holidays' not take them away.
Just go on strike if you don't like it - that seems to be the new way of thinking being instilled in the masses.
Alternatively you could try working for yourself, bank holiday, holiday pay, sick pay then do not become a cause of concern.

I was just going to post this. You won't get so worked up if you pay attention to the news instead of just hearing some words and filling in the rest.
