If this thread had been entitled "Women you'd never get tired of punching in the face", Mumsnet would be down on us like a tonne of hormonal, illogical bricks.

No its not, the "doing well" is being done for her.

Bit like a schoolgirl having her homework done for her by her parents and getting good grades as a result, is she really "doing well"?
But she's doing very well as a result. She might not be forging her own way in the world, but regardless, she's doign very well. If you want to specifically define 'doing well' as 'working very hard for yourself and reaping the benefits you deserve', then no, she's not. But that's a completely arbitrary definition.
Disgree completely I'm afraid.

Imagine the London marathon, all the runners set off, and one gets into a car driven by daddy that drives past them all and deposits little darling on the finish line where she can run across the line with the winners.

You say "ooh, she is doing very well" and I say "no, Daddy gave her a flippin lift!"

Would you then say "oooh, that's just a specific definition of doing well, a completely arbitrary definition. Regardless of how she got there, she's doing very well in the marathon". biggrin
I think 100% of the population would agree that driving your way to the end of a running race is not doing well at that race and is also totally against the rules.

I don't think 100% of the population would agree that to be 'doing well' in life you have to have achieved it all starting from nothing and all off your own back.

And if so, where do you stop? "Oh he's not doing well in life despite becoming a doctor because he went to private school and had home tutoring paid for my his parents", "Oh he's not doing well in life, it's just because he happened to be born in England and not Ethiopia", "Oh he's not doing well in life, he just has good genetics passed down by his parents."

Tracy Emin
This, good call.
To be fair, she's an artist, she's yaddayaddayadda

Where's the "O RLY" owl when you need it!?!
Sorry Brian (I'm assuming you or the earlier poster is Mr Sewell), but I have to laugh when PHers consider themselves experts on art.

She makes a good living from what she does, so regardless of whether you like her stuff or not, she IS an artist.

Art's a pretty subjective thing and her 'stuff' isn't my taste, but that's what she does - It's like saying David Cameron isn't a politician...

I need to cleanse the pallet. I'm sorry guys but I'm introducing Lauren Laverne to give us a vitamin boost. Shes not 'amazing' to look at but whenever I see her on TV she is the polar-opposite of 'irritating'.

God, really?

Really?
She is HUGELY annoying on 6 radio...Ruins it for me when she is on
I do sort of see where hora is coming from, though she is capable of ruining it with a huge slice of pretentious.

Pistonheads leaping to the defence of Tracy Emin, and describing her as a "flirty chick" and an even an "artist"

Really was not expecting that!
