or just because the media have mentioned it and they've done it to be able to say they did it?
That. 100%

Even the OP of the Claire Squires thread couldn't resist but say "I've donated, have you?"

Utter load of self-aggrandising ste. It's essentially a meme now, albeit a real world one, rather than an internet one.

Yes, it's a shame, yes it's sad, and I know how it feels to lose a friend, but I didn't know her, I never will, and her death just doesn't touch me in the slightest. It's not that I don't give a st, it's even less than that, it has no impact on me whatsoever.

But what's even sadder than that, is that I feel I have to type that justification to avoid appearing "mean" or "uncaring".

That said, I've been swept up in it before with the Hammond thing - it's all too easy.

The Diana band wagon jumping was a national embarresment IMO

The morning she died I got a bking from my mrs cos I said at least we wont have to be hearing about her every fking 5 minutes. IMO she was a fking retarded manipulative mental case.

Similar ste over the fking retarded racist Jade goody ,well there are now words to express how fking annoyed I was.
They still talk about her legacy, give me strength.
Jade Goody was the biggest piss take ever! This was a woman who wanted to die live on TV, she was even cashing in on her won death, along with the scrote that married her purely to get his hands on more money.

I made my feelings very clear about this a while ago on the Civic Type R Owners forum, then got banned hehe only to then be reinstated that the thread was partly on about freedom of speech and I'd be banned for giving an opinion, albeit a harsh and slightly unpopular one hehe

I thought it was sad that they had that concert for Princess Diana I mean she didnt have much to do with pop music , they should have have done something that celebrated what was really great about her life … like staging a gang bang in a minefield.

There is one reason, and one reason only for the outpouring of grief and donations for Claire Squires...

She was fit. We all would have.

Had Claire Squires been Roger Smith, overweight 40-something accountant - no one would have given a flying fk. Or £600k.

People are sheep and if the montage on the tele has sad music in the background then they will cry. Like most PH'ers I couldnt GAF if someone famous dies.

That's not to say everyone here is heartless. When I posted up about a deaf and blind rescue that unfortunately had to be put to sleep in my arms I got quite a few pm's from strangers expressing their sympathy.

RIP Van Cleef.

I don't really 'get' the London marathon, or any event which happens for the purposes of raising money for charity. I donate money to charities every so often, so why do people feel that they need to get something for their money in return? They wont donate usually but if someone is fking killing themselves running a race then they will? All the ste that surrounds the London marathon e.g. advertising, televising etc. probably costs a fair old whack.

Just donate FFS, you don't need something in return. I don't need someone to cut their hair off for me for me to feel like my money is going to a good cause, just giving it straight to the charity is enough.
If you can do something you enjoy and raise fund for a good cause at the same time is in my book fine.
I, many many years ago did a sponsored 24hr "pub games" - darts, snooker etc for cancer relief. Bit of a laugh really!
However, we did not go around shaking buckets, pressurising people into donating. That is the side of donations, along with the adverts of polar bears/ sick puppies / snow leopards / etc that makes me switch channels.

Sad that the girl died, seen many incidences where apparently fit sunday league players have done just the same, yet because he was not doing it for "charidy" its just another small news story.

Glad i am not alone in hating the national outpourings of psudo grief.

Porta-shrines are a national embarrassment. If i ever die in a motorcycle accident, i also do not want rotting flowers and a tacky stuffed animal mouding at the side of the road.

Looks like most of us here are the remainder who li,e to grieve in dignity and privately for those who really matter to us.

In a similar vein, people who insist on leaving flowers at the site of a death.

There was a lad in my town died in a stupid "gang fight", someone stabbed him.

Years later his mother is still putting flowers on the road where he died, and every so often manages to get herself into the local rag on some pretext or other to do with it.

Grieve, by all means, but you're just one of a million people in the world that was bereaved that week. Why must the rest of us be forced to be interested?

My family are under strict instructions if anything untimely happens to me, no public flowers. Have some dignity, grieve in private, not out loud.
There was a post on PH I vaguely remember. It was quite a while back and I forget who it was, but the chap who posted it said he hadn't lived at his house long. On new year's eve, he saw some chavs from a couple of doors down laying flowers on his door step. When he asked what was going on, he found out they'd had a NYE party a couple of years earlier. A fight spilled into the street, which ended with somebody being stabbed and killed outside his front door and the family were using his doorstep for their chavvy memorial service on the anniversary of his death.

I didn't contribute to that marathon girls just giving page.
I didnt know her and The Samaritans isn't a charity I give any money to.

I did give money to a friend who is doing a charity skydive for The Epilepsy society, something my brother suffered from (and possibly was a contributing factor to his death) and I gave money to Kevin Wells (Holly Wells' dad of Soham) because I live close to that place and I sort of know the family.

They're actually a valuable commodity.

Forgot your wife's/girlfriend's/mistresses/mother's/granny's birthday?

Simply tie a bunch of reduced to clear 99p flowers to a lamp post on your way to work, on the way home collect a dozen fresh bunches of flowers to look like a true gent.

Me and Dad have an agreement that if the worst should happen and we crash our cars/bikes and die, we DO NOT want any memorial flowers. Aside from the fact it is chavistic, We would not want anyone to see where we fked up.
