I don't get the anti German thing.
Just because they started two world wars when they promised not to, and were totally responsible for the deaths of millions of people, and appear not to have learnt from their mistakes and still have a very active collection of far right fascist skinhead groups who preach holocuast denial and organise attacks on immigrant communites, that's no reason to be suspicious of them.

If you hate "Germans" for what they have done, why don't you hate "humans" or "males" or "People with hair" for what they have done?

I hate the Nazis, Well mainly Hitler. The reason? He ruined what is an awesome looking moustache. As soon as you do it, people think you're a fascist.

Ayahuasca said: I should have thought it was self-evident, but no problem. You bemoan "reflexive, indoctrinated hate" yet accuse the English (all of them, every last one!) of having a particular talent for "island mentality and pure xenophobia". See it now? Ooh, you've got a good condescending leer on you there, lovely. Keep your chin up a bit more on the "see it now" though. No, it's not self evident and I don't agree with your proposed logic at all. I'm English and so obviously have lots of experience of the English and know them extremely well, so by default am qualified to comment on them. You appear to be accusing me of hypocrisy but I would have thought it "self evident" that this cannot be the case because as an Englishman my accusation comes from a lifetime of experience and contact with the English. So not a question of reflexive, indoctrinated hate then unlike the case of the gumby xenophobes. ETA Oh, I seeee. Ayahuasca said: vixen1700 said: rhinochopig said: Christ, that's f king depressing. You have to remember that as you get older, the loss of tact goes, along with bladder control. I grew up in the 60's (Commando and Warlord - ah.... the memories) and saw first hand some of the devastation that still had not been rebuilt. My father served in the RAF, mother was evacuated out of Glasgow to Inveraray (due to bombing) as she was still at school (there was 11 year difference in age for them) but I never remember having an instilled hatred of Germany. I now live in the US and my father in law (91 year old who landed at Ohama, fought at Casino, and saw Auschwitz fist hand) doesn't have a racial hatred. In fact, he (despite being a Republican "righty") probably won't vote for Romney simply because he has voiced opinions about 'going to war'. His comment was, "We don't want to be send more kids to die". Mind you, his tact in other areas is seriously lacking. Patrick Moore,is entitled to his opinion, despite the lack of political correctness, simply because he has personally experienced a "wrong", the fact that he has grouped an entire Nation/Religion/Philosophy into his "bad" bucket is a natural human function.

The old cliché, we were not there still rings true. This must shape a person to a great degree as it has here, others may not be so anti. I still admire the old fella and really would like to hear the interview, I don't like hearing second hand reports with no idea of the context. There are many veterans who are not too well disposed to Japan. TwigtheWonderkid said: I don't get the anti German thing.

I love the place. The people responsible for the last war are no longer around and have not been in any real power since, oh, 45? What is there now as you propose is not what the apparent quote from Patrick More is about. I wonder what the surviving Germans think of the Brits for reaping the whirlwind?

The point you seem to be struggling with and i'll put down in simple terms is that you blame the person/s involved, not those who just happen to be born in the same place. Or have the same colour of skin. Or have hair. Or are left handed. By your moronic logic you hate yourself for what happened back then because you're human too? Go shoot yourself and make up for it then.

However, I always say 'Good Luck' with just a hint of a German accent if I ever pass anyone getting on a bus. Ever vigilant, me. For you, Tommy, ze var iz over.

Wacky Racer said: True story:- Many years ago (1973), as a fresh faced teenager I worked as a van delivery driver for an electrical wholesale company near Stockport. One of my deliveries was to a family run electrical/hardware shop about five miles away. Now the owner, had been tortured by the Japanese on the Burma death railway and would not have ANYTHING Japanese in his shop, and I was told this when I started the job. One day I took his usual delivery of valves, radio's etc, which one of the young warehouse lads had packed into a "Sharp Electronics" box...I walked into the shop with a cheery hello, advanced towards the counter and he started hurling everything he could find off his shelves at me in an uncontrollable rage, Irons, light bulbs, hammers, nails.... ....I thought wtf!!! and beat a hasty retreat... Obviously he had spotted the Sharp logo on the cardboard box which set him off on one...... So I guess scars DO run deep........ it could just have been your squinty eyes.

It is only a shame that Sir Patrick Moore gave that s tty paper exactly what they thrive on. In my view it is not surprising that he still hates the Germans, they murdered his Fiance, he also probably lost a good few friends. He has every right to still hate them. His generation does not do fluffy councelling and also witnessed the German war machine. Our generation has no reason to be like that in my opinion. I like the few Germans I have met, they seem very much like decent brits in my opinion. An old friend, (now sadly departed) was properly racist against and hated and despised the Japanese. He had spent 4 years in a Jap prisoner of war camp though after the fall of Singapore. In my view he had every right to be like that. Some thing cannot be forgotten or forgiven by all human minds.

Don't look at what happened in a historical context, look at it from a context of an Allied person at the time. It is all a sweet piece of propaganda to simply blame the Nazi's and yet leave the Germans as sweet peace loving gentle folk.
