Yeah, yeah, take the piss why don't you before we get started...

Being a guy but with shoulder length hair I'd quite like to do something with it other than having it hanging limply and flatly ... I'd really really like to add some volume, a bit of curl and some bounce to it, and come out looking something like this bloke:

My problem is that my hair is very straight and quite thin and fine, so is there any way to achieve the above without walking into a hairdressers and asking for a perm?
Experimenting with holding my head upside down and hairspraying the roots to try and lift them seemed to make bugger-all difference

On the advice of my hairdresser, no doubt on commission, I recently purchased some of this http://mitchtheman.com/products_reformer.html

It's like wax, but not greasy to touch. It allows you to style your hair so that it holds, but can still be touched and handled without losing it's shape or making your hands all sticky. And it does work for long hair. If anything it gets better as the day goes on. Jeeze, I sound like such a ponce now.

Do you smoke, OP?
If so, may I suggest you consider style flammability?
It would be awful to singe such a luxurious chest mane.

You need more hairspray and a hair dryer to "set" it.
