Man maths and budget creep saw the idea of buying a set of goldring NS1000 noise cancelling headphones for some upcoming long haul flights become a set of Audio Technica ANC9s at more than twice the price.

Still, Amazon UK had them at £200 whilst Amazon.de had them for €200

I agree. They aren't the most robust things in the world but they probably have the best noise cancelling of any headphone I've tried.

I was between those and the audio technica but all the reviews I watched and read said the ATs had better quality

I tend to buy on merit and quality - I tend not to put value on something *merely* being "old", and am not put off by a good production (if the price is right). The one I bought has the weight, has the quality, and the price was right. If it looked cheap and poor quality then I'd have left it (which is of course why it's better to buy in person rather than on-line when you are buying something subjective).

Edit: Looking on eBay, it looks like I got a good price regardless. Certainly not rare though.

It never got any bids and didn't sell. So whether that guy thought it was worth £69.99 or £69,000 is irrelevant to the value of yours frown

I keep looking at the V-moda 100

http://www.amazon.co.uk/V-Moda-Crossfade-Over-Ear-...

trying to find anywhere that does them a little cheaper.

I'm not sure if this is still frivolous... It was and then I used it to deliver dog biscuits and now said dog seems to have befriended it! biggrin

True. But there are several others for sale too, and if you search on Completed Listings it would seem that they do sell and sell for around £40-£60, occasionally more. I agree that £69.99 was definitely the cheeky top end of the market though.

Pixelstick looks cool.

I took that ridiculously bright torch out last night to have a play, illuminating one side of York Racecourse from the other.

Was missing a 12mm spanner from the set I have, so naturally I bought these:

Hmmm. Some black vinyl faux-leather, some foam, and a staple gun, and you could be onto a nice little side-line here. Looks great!

I particularly like the fact that you've gone to the effort of making it adjustable rather than building it to just your own dimensions.

I could try and take credit for the whole thing but I can't. I bought the plans from here and built it

http://www.thewayiplay.com/mainforum/index.php?top...

The adjustment is very clever as it clamps down and locks it all into place.

I'm planning on making some cushions that velcro in place and I may also frivolously make a bag seat for it :-)

Edit: You've just given me an idea... I just tried an Ikea Poang cushion in it, I can squeeze it in but if anybody makes one then make the wide version but add 3cm to the width and a Poang cushion will fit perfectly. I now have a leather cushion in the there :-D

You make "and built it" sound so trivial when clearly it isn't.

Still a great bit of work; I'm not sure I could build one.

Honestly, it's easy. Just takes time. I built that with drill bits, jigsaw, the right bolts and some checking that the plans printed were all the right scale.

To be honest, if somebody asked me to make them one... I'd say no!!
