Have been smoking for the 35 yrs and have just decided to try e-cigerettes,
I bought an aspire mini-nautilus with an eleaf istick 20watt 5.5v with 1.8 ohm coils, the juice is 18mg nicotine genie juice chocolate and the same in peach flavour.
I have read all the instructions for both devices and am still struggling to find the sweet spot to not be swamped with a bitter taste and start coughing..
Do i press the heat button as i put it in my mouth and suck (as on the youtube vids they seem to take 3 small sucks and be in dense fog.
I have it set to 6.0watts 3.4 volts and 1.8 ohms,i know that its all individual regarding taste etc but am i missing something obvious?
It takes a few days or weeks to get used to vaping, the throat hit is different to smoking, I love tobacco flavours and have struggled my self with anything other then tobacco flavours. Try some USA mix at 18mg with a 70pg 30vg ratio.
Today I travelled a hour to a decent vaping shop, tried about 60 different flavours. I bought some golden Virginia and cappuccino and mix them 80/20 so it's a ciggy coffee hit. I'm a happy man. Persevere my friend, they don't replace fags but you get used to it. Promise.

Great thread been reading this for weeks well probably a month or so.

Got myself a ibaccy starter kit, going ok with a tobacco fluid but looking to upgrade and haven't a clue where to start, so much choice out there.

I highly recommend an Innokin ITaste SVD 2.0 with a Nautilus Aspire tank. You'll also need to get yourself some 18650 batteries with it and a charger.

Do your research though and look around before buying. Indoor smokers on Youtube do some great reviews and so do UKecig store, where you can also browse nearly everything, as they have a huge range of stock.

Before getting a mod and upgrading though, you should really look up variable wattage/voltage and understand how it all works.

Cotty and dotty! Ha!

I'll shout out on cotty's behalf.

Yes.

I got one on his recomdation.

Epic about covers it.

Cheap, powerful, long lasting, covers all bases. Game changing batt at its price point .
I'll agree with all of that. I got one after my Mrs got one of the very first ones a while ago. We've had quite a few different batteries between us and we both now exclusively use our isticks.

New toy smile

Taifun GT2 (clone) wink

I'm a big Taifun fan and this ones pretty good, nice RTA for a beginner too looking to get into rebuildables. Airflow controls great and gives a really nice smooth vape! Little bit leaky though through the air holes but for £9!!!

I bought the cheap Stoptober kit from UK Ecig a few months ago and it was going ok. No clue what I was doing with it really. Just charging, vaping and changing the coil when it needed. Stupidly broke it a few weeks ago so popped to my local E-Cig shop and ended up buying an MVP 2.0 with the iClear 30. Still no real clue what I'm doing with it to be honest but the difference was night and day.

Started using a new flavour last week called Blue Mist. From what I can tell it's a blueberry menthol flavour, but tastes like a Halls Soother or Tunes. Nice cold hit on my throat too.

But next I'll be going for some Snake Oil next to see if I can tell the difference between cheap and premium oils.

Just been on their site 100ml of whatever you want for 35 quid is pretty bloody good - nice way to do a sample kit.

One of the flavours I like the sound of reacts with pmma tanks - would the white plastic tank I've got the billet box be made of that? I think it was introduced (instead of the original clear) to be more proof against attack...

What's the deal with the temperature control of the coils? I recently saw VaporShark have released coils specific to an Aspire tank (can't remember which one) that'll suit their DNA40 boards. Will it just mean that coils will be able to burn at higher temps without affecting the temperature of the vape itself i.e. not get warmer?
So normal coils use resistance wire (usually kanthal) which heat up as current passes through them to turn the liquid into vapour.
DNA40 in temperature protection uses very low resistance wire and this allows the electronics to monitor the temperature of the coil and prevent it getting hotter than what you set the limit to.

eLiquid vapourises at 150C or so - cotton wicks (which are very common now) burn at about 250C and juices will burn and caramelise at similar temperatures.

So locking the temperature setting to lower than the liquid can burn at and lower than the wick can burn at, but hot enough to vapourise the liquid gives several advantages.

i) batteries last longer (less power is used)
ii) you never get a dry hit or burning flavour so your juice lasts longer
iii) it's better for your health (hot temperatures at the coil can lead to potential bad chemicals entering the vapour, the main one is acrolein, though there are others, in normal vaping you get very few of these but zero is better than very few)

I reckon in a year or so temp control will be the norm and some of the bigger Chinese makers like Innokin/Sigelei will have £40 temperature control devices available.

Right now vaping isn't risk free, it's at least 100x healthier than smoking tobacco, but there does exist the potential for long term health issues as noone has vaped yet for over 10 years we don't know what, if any, problems there might be.

Temperature control has the potential to make vaping entirely risk free.

Good luck in switching off cigarettes!

The biggest thing to remember is that vaping isn't smoking and you shouldn't vape the way you used to smoke. Basically yes you push the button when you put the mouthpiece into your mouth, inhale, then release the button when you want to stop vaping.

i) inhaling. Don't inhale vapour direct to your lungs, use it like you'd smoke a cigar, take longer slower drags and inhale into your mouth, then draw the vapour briefly into the lungs and exhale. Smoking the faster you draw the hotter the end burns and the more smoke you get. the opposite is true vaping, the faster you draw, the more air will cool the coil and you get lower performance, so longer slower draws are much better.

ii) juice. Try and find some decent juices that are 40% VG or higher. If the juice is any good it'll say on the bottle what the PG/VG ratio is. The cheaper stuff uses 70% or 80% PG and PG is known to give liquids more throat hit. If you're just starting out then less throat hit is a good thing until you get more used to vaping.

iii) keep the power levels down a little lower while you get used to vaping - higher power = hotter coils which if you're not careful will burn the juice making it taste bad, also that increases the amount of vapour. The more vapour there is the more nicotine it has in it so the greater the throat hit.

Check to make sure your coil doesn't look dark brown or burnt. If it does change it for a new one. Start at a low power setting (anything under 3.7volts is low) and inhale slowly as per i) if you want a bit more oomph nudge the power settings up 1 notch and try again, eventually you should find a sweet spot that gives good flavour(as long as the juice you're using is reasonable) a reasonable amount of vapour and doesn't make you cough a lot. If you've been smoking a long time then your sense of taste is going to be a bit crap for a while after you quit smoking.

Don't worry too much about the dense fog bit yet. You get that by using (very)low resistance coils, high VG low nicotine liquid. First step is to find a setup you like and settings and juice that you enjoy vaping.

Yeah, I was being lazy...

Tart's Tipple and The Governor. Trying to decide whether I want to go for 3x30ml of the ones that sound 'best' and a 10ml wildcard, or 5x20ml and include some flavours I'm less sure about.

I'll sleep on it and order a batch tomorrow - how quick was delivery?

Looks interesting, I was going to get the VS rdna40 but there's still some issues, I'm getting the 50w istick next then wait a few months untill these temp control devices get more popular. Definitely the way forward smile

Couple of days, they are pretty quick

The Governor is nice I ordered 30ml after using up the first 10ml bottle. I have 10ml of The Governess to try as well at the other two bottles.

They trew in a bottle of Boggart Breath but I didn't like it. Ill add it to my juice draw and try it in a month or two

thumbup

10ml is too little I find to decide if I like a juice - I tend to order 50-100ml of a juice I like so tend to run through 20ml or so before I decide.

I've heard good things about most of the range, so think I'll go for five flavours and hope I get one or two I like enough to reorder.

Anyone else tried the Joyetech Ego One yet? I'm using one on my iStick at the mo, with a 1 ohm coil. Interesting vape, but it guzzles juice, you can't see how much liquid is left, and it's a bh to refill.

I'll probably go back to my Naultilus mini, but that doesn't always make a good contact with the iStick due to the centre pin issue, so the iStick will be returned when I get back from my hols.

Anyone had any joy with a diy fix of a dodgy iStick centre pin? My mini iStick is the same, but not quite as bad. A lot of people recommend using a Nautilus, on account of it having a spring-loaded centre pin, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the (strong) spring of my Nautilus's pin caused the issue (it was fine for a week using an old Nova tank).
And I've tried an adaptor, and o-rings under the tank, and loosening the tank slightly. Any of those will work for a few seconds, then it's back to a weak vape, as if the batetry is flat.

Got a Lemo drop delivered on Wednesday; I hadn't done any coiling/wicking before so decided to just use the pre installed coil to try it out with Digbys Oriental Plunder, it's a nice juice but not for me. Cleaned it out, dry burn and new wick, didn't use enough cotton and the fill hole is tiny so the pressure that was created when filling flooded it big time and liquid was pissing out of it. Argh. Rewicked with more cotton and found a needle nose tip for filling and it was spot on thumbup

Made and installed a coil myself this morning, wicked it and it's going great guns, but by fk does it go through juice! Time to start mixing my own or I'll be spending £100+ per month at Digby's! Even with the air flow closed off as much as possible, it's too airy for mouth to lung, so I've opened out and just doing lung hits, great taste and vapour. Build is good, although the metal is a bit thin, bugger to fill as you need a screwdriver to put the screw in the fill hole, and the airflow is fiddly to adjust, but it's fairly easy to build a and performs great.
