I know what he means though with that troublesome vestibule, someone in my area has a very lacklustre portico, whilst another local has really let his pergola go

Allaloneatron said: Wow.. that is a high horse you are on there. Financial situations can be affected by anything, job loss, illness, Children (like me) so it was meant as a general catch all. If someone moved in next to you and made the house a pigsty, can you tell me you wouldn’t be pissed off? Well firstly the house that is the subject of this thread isn't actually next to the OP, and secondly, whether or not I would be pissed off is irrelevant. My point is that I wouldn't automatically assume their house was untidy because they were poor. It's not a high horse, it's just an incredulous one. Edit: I'd better get my spelling correct. I don't want anyone to think that I can't afford a decent keyboard

I would suggest stop perring in peoples windows like some sad stalker, live your life, there could be a whole mulitude of things going on there, depression, money worries, people do tend to give up, or they could be just scruffy f kers, what concern is it of yours, if that is all you have to worry about you are a lucky guy

I could be described as scruffy a lot of the time, I don't care and I don't seem to have a lot of time left outside work. I am usually running around doing errands for my youthgroup, family or GF. When I was younger and single I used to wax my car without fail every week and do proper cleans but now I am lucky to fit in a wash more than twice a month. Although next week I am removing stinging nettles and tarting up my garden but that's because I have booked holiday for it.

Down the road (past mine in a cul de sac, so I only see it when turning cars around), some pleb never cuts his grass - and I mean never. It's currently about a foot long, and if I lived nearer, it'd piss me off rotten.
Why is it "ok" to relax and be a scruffy bugger? I relaise that every man's home is his castle, but you should always show some consideration for others, especially your neighbours. It's not ok mate. No one wants to live in a s t tip. it only takes one family to not give a f k, and it devalues the properties adjacent. I'd be in favour of some kind of legislation to enforce people maintained maintain thier properties. Go to some northern towns and the place is a dump, noone ever cleans or puts a lick of paint on anything. Doesn't happen in Germany or Switzerland why do we have to put up with it?. As for People saying get a life etc, if it wasn't for the older generation doing DIY the housing stock would have fell apart years ago. Saddening. Because we live in a free country. No we don't. There are laws concerning how we dress, decency, where we smoke, litter, dog mess, drinking alcohol in , even what we say in public. about time some of these s who blight whole streets were bought to book. I mean how dare he!

My neighbour once mowed my back lawn for me (It's tiny compared to you people in your mansions) I guess because he works from home a lot, and obviously has more time than me / the sight of my slightly over grown lawn had annoyed him (I was due to mow it the following day).
Nothing else to contribute to this thread really.
I'm going for ice cream.

Germany and Switzerland have similar laws, plus (according to you) some others telling how your house must look and when you can (or can't in Switzerland's case) wash your car. Therefore we are freer. It doesn't matter what the Daily Mail says (both on this subject and generally). Switzerland in particular allows far less freedom than the UK.

What we should really do, is have estates owned by the rich, who can keep them looking all nice and consistent, and then the plebs can just rent. Oh wait, haven't we tried that already?

I was more making the point that perhaps (and it would seem as some developments are doing) if people are that worried about the appearance of someone elses house the onus should be on the management organisation, not the homeowners / tenants.
