Well beleive it or not it was actually my attempt at humour but it's not exactly gone down well. Jeez guys you lot are uptight, why not go and have a w k? Nigh night, bedways is rightways for me. Pig Skill said: It's owned by a bloke and his wife and they have three children. the ironing board is always out, They chose to repair it by boarding over it with some plywood. They have a couple of s t cars too that NEVER get washed, they are dented, scuffed, old, noisy and just generally a bit s t. You often see him just plebbing about, generally relaxing and doing f k all. I was thinking asking him why he doesn't get his life sorted and get his finger out. What would the PH forum members recommend for my approach? I'm a confident chap with no real issue in coming out with it, but I realise this approach isn't always the best.... some explanations for the mess : They have 3 children, money and time is tight. They have 3 children, the ironing board is always out, because they have standards and iron their own clothes. The window is cracked, money and time is tight, so they made it safe, and are saving up for a new door, but the dog is at the vet's and is costing a fortune to save. The have 2 cars which are road legal. The bloke has ME Chronic Fatigue and is forced to spend time relaxing (my wife has ME and it's pretty frustrating when she can see mess, and hasn't the energy to clear up) One day the children will leave home, he'll have paid off the mortgage, and he'll have a bit of time and money to fix it all up. Until then, please lay off. There but for the grace of god go I.

So, in summary, the OP (Pig Skill) has totally misread the PH psyche. He thought that the average demographic on here are mansion-owning, Bentley-driving snobs who would look down on anyone who dare to bring down the neighbourhood. (Not that those of us living in châteaus or mansions would have a "neighbourhood" as such.) So he decided to assert his middle-class abhorrence by slagging off a neighbour who takes slightly less pride than him in the appearance of his abode. Expects a response along the lines of "Oh, I say, what an oik. You must draft a letter to your MP immediately and get this low-life scum evicted." Gets the response "Leave him alone, it's a free country and you're a snobbish t t." Back-pedals furiously, slagging off those who don't agree. Classic PH thread.

If the ironing board is out, surely that is the opposite of scruffy people?

I think most PH'ers would prefer a tidy neighbour BUT as long as they aren't behaving in an anti-social manner, kids aren't bothering people, late-night noise or pathetic boundary disputes THEN who cares if their house is a bit tatty.

Ah, tits. If they are anything like me, one of the Shiitty cars is a Cavalier which needs a sill before the next MOT, he's just ordered one, got his welder working, and is planning to spend Jubilee Day welding, whilst there is in actually fact a very clean mk1 MX5 which he recently polished hiding in the garage.

Do you own the village? Are you in charge of standards and ethics? "Lowering the tone". Tut. Tell you what, why don't you use some of your confidence to have a chat with him about it (perhaps you could arrange a coffee morning). Hopefully he'll punch you in the throat. Cracking reply

I'm suprised as to why this thread has gone so awry for the OP. I live in a place I consider to be nice. nothing special, but nice enough. Down the road (past mine in a cul de sac, so I only see it when turning cars around), some pleb never cuts his grass - and I mean never. It's currently about a foot long, and if I lived nearer, it'd piss me off rotten.
Why is it "ok" to relax and be a scruffy bugger? I relaise that every man's home is his castle, but you should always show some consideration for others, especially your neighbours.
