A scenario for you, and a decision to make.
You're 50-ish, but you have a significantly younger outlook than your birth certificate indicates. Your relationship history is chequered, at best. You're in a fairly well-paid job, but it's not a job that you love or would seek to replicate elsewhere. You have family, but if you're honest, you're not particularly close to them. You have a pile of goods and chattels, but you realise that sentimentality is the bringer of clutter. You have plenty of friends, but when it comes right down to the wire, how many of them would actually go the extra mile for you? You were born and bred in the UK, but you have a real love/hate relationship with GB today, although you're not stupid enough to think that the grass is necessarily greener elsewhere.
You could liquidate something like £150k reasonably easily. You've paid, and overpaid, into pensions all your working life, which will pay out at retirement, but you won't be living the life of Riley on the proceeds (at least, not if you stay where you are).
So you decide you want out. Permanently. One way ticket. No looking back over your shoulder.
Where would you go? How would you get there? And then what would you do?

I'd sell up, fly to Australia, buy a 4x4 and a caravan and drive round until I got fed up. Or alternatively, buy a 4x4 camper in the UK and drive it to Australia, then continue as above

Congratulations, you're having a late mid life crisis/enlightenment. Buy a motorbike or sports car get some new clothes and get a much younger girlfriend.

Sell everything, chuck all the money into one account, pack a rucksack with clothes and essentials, take your phone, passport and bank card, book a ferry to France and then just make your way across the world until you find somewhere you love and set up sticks. I'd be looking at somewhere out in the sticks, maybe India or Jamaica. Build yourself a little house and just do small jobs to tide you over...

Those boxes were all ticked many years ago. Hence seeking a different approach. Last time around I said to myself that this would be the way forward if it came to it. I'm not quite there yet, but things are getting tenuous.

I'd move to the Peak District (admittedly, not a different country, but compared to London it might as well be), buy a small house near a village pub, get a labrador and a Land Rover Defender and live out my days walking, pootling and fixing things.

Caribbean. Laze about on the beach all day/bars/help out on pleasure trips for tourists.
Live a simple inexpensive life for a while and enjoy.

It's a nice dream, but I don't think I'd have the balls to do it. Maybe one day, when I'm as depressed about life as the OP...

I plan on selling everything I own when I'm 60. Then I'll buy a campervan and drive around europe until the money runs out.
