Let me get this right. People do this for fun?
Our boat was once sat above the start at the Durham Head race waiting to be called, when we heard some shouting on the bank. There were a group of about 10-15 male / female students dressed in what could only be described as fantasy role play costumes who were pretending to cast spells and wave swords about - not unlike that famous video clip - and all seemed to be having a great time.

At the time we laughed at them for being idiots but the girls in their clique were dressed in basques and stockings, whereas the ladies of the rowing club tended towards dressing in whatever was slimming. Looking back, I *think* they may have had the better idea.

I was at Wimmin's Henley yesterday, whilst the quality was varied, it was still a pleasant place to spend an afternoon... wink

Ah yes, but the ladies of Henley are of somewhat fitter stock than the average - rowing's good for weight loss - uni club rowers. The spectators however... lick

I can still remember the hangover from the last time I was at Henley as a young lad. We had a pair in so went down to watch and sat outside the pimms tent near the start. Towards the end of the day as they were packing up they started pouring their excess opened pimms away. Being a fine upstanding Yorkshire gent I stepped in to avert such wastage and to this day find pimms somewhat noisome.

Did you ever race there Lewis?

No, I'm a bloke so was excluded from the selection process of Bird's Henley.

I never raced at the "Real" one either, but not from lack of trying. I narrowly missed out during my first year at Leander, then had knee surgery shortly before the summer of the second year. In my final stab at it, I was edged out of the boat, now rowing for Aberdeen, by a lightweight.

I suppose I could have found a club to row at for another year just to have entered, and get knocked out on the first day, but I didn't see the point. I have other notable successes from my career, so it doesn't grate too much, but it is a bit of a regret.

Anyway, back on topic, the OP could go as Lara Croft, and enjoy the weird looks he'll get...

A society entirely comprised of weird male creatures, with a single coquettish female to go between them all?

Good idea.

Being on PH would have been the perfect preparation.
