I think even tattooists refer to facial tattoos as "jobstoppers" - slightly tongue in cheek.
Personally I think it looks terrible but whatever floats his boat, given the quality of the work I doubt this is something either he or the tattooist have rushed into without some consideration.

On the subject of tattooes - Mrs DS and I are on a last minute break for a week in Lanzarote. Very nice, clean place. But the British - I am flabbergasted at how fat they are, it’s jaw dropping. And every single Brit is covered in tattooes - it’s bloody awful and embarrassing. Mrs DS and I often play the tractor game, or spot yellow cars. Here we are playing spot the tattoo-free Brit. Pickings are very very slim.
I have a theory about it. You know how they tried to get ID cards through a few years ago and failed? Well imagine someone saying "You know, what we really need is for the underclass to all brand themselves indelibly somehow, and for them to believe that it's a good thing"So they got a few 'social influencers' tatted up and the sheep all queued up to be branded, they even paid for it out of their own benefits! Voila!
Because you're absolutely right. I was in Sainsburys the other day and every single slack jawed cretin was 'inked', it was hilarious!
They all think they're so individual, just like all the rest!

It's not for you. It's sure as hell not for me. But to get a piece of that level of quality done, on the side of the face, the owner would have had to find an artist a) prepared and b) talented enough to do the work. Some of the facial tattoos on this thread can only be explained by the presence of many, many drugs, but this one has been genuinely well done and would not have been the work of a moment. I would imagine that your man is either a tattooist himself, or works in some other job where nobody cares what colour each bit of him is.
It's not the same as those numpties who get "YOLO" slapped on the forehead and then wonder why they can't hold down that librarian role.

Might be well done, might even be a work of art (it's not, but let's just say), but on the face?
At best, file it under 'seemed like a good idea at the time'.
