Are there actually any autonomous systems like that except for close in defensive systems like Phalanx? Anything else I'm aware of if only semi autonomous and needs a bloke to press the fire button (eg predator), and even systems like Phalanx are only fully automated in very specific circumstances.

As for Skynet we've had it for ages http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skynet_(satellite)

In any real combat situation the system would be in auto, the operator has no control over what target is chosen, or when to shoot.

Mini phalanx on legs (or wheels) will be moving around battlefields in 10 years
