They'll basically just tell you that you need a good reason to be carrying it, eg work etc. Sods law says you'll then, at some point, have it with you and the reason won't be good enough and they'll be able to say "we told you and you didn't listen..."

If I understand it correctly you can carry it if you have good reason, such as you need it for your job. As already mentioned it's not exactly the tool of choice for a madman on a stabbing spree.

Do you find yourself getting frisked on a regular basic, if so you might be best not to carry it!

If i'm likely to need a leatherman on a particular day I'll take the non-locking juice, if i'm out with the gun the wave comes with me, if stopped by the police I think they might be more interested in the 12 bore!

99% of the time you're unlikely to encounter any trouble unless you bring it on yourself, just don't go showing it off on your belt.

How do you normally carry your leatherman, most people I know would ridicule me for having it on my belt so mine goes in a pocket

It varies. I'm also a scout leader, so if I'm scouting/camping it will be in the nylon pouch on my belt. It gets used so often then and I have pockets filled up with other junk! I regularly end up walking around towns/shops with it when doing so, but hey, a scout uniform generally counts as a reason! Other times it will be in a pocket. I spent some time doing IT work in London, and then it lived in my rucksack with other tools/cables/laptop etc. Same goes when I'm taking it to and from uni with my other tools.

So it varies!

Mine goes on my belt, I wear a suit (If it can be classed as such, horrible cheap uniform suit) so if I slide it round as far back as it goes it's pretty much invisible most of the time. I have to keep keys and things in my pockets so it's the best place.

Really the risk isn't losing it as much as losing your liberty if you are "caught" with it when you shouldn't have it. Unfortunately despite our best intentions, the police have zero tolerance of bladed articles and you can't really talk yourself out of carrying them without an obvious reason you can prove there and then.

Re. other comments - it's easy to say "I'm not likely to get searched" but it's sod's law that something unexpected will happen that you didn't think was ever likely...

Can anyone recommend a good belt pouch?

I nearly lost mine overboard last night, and was lucky to realise just in time that the two bottom rivets on my leather pouch/case had popped and my Blast was half out and heading south!

I think the problem is when it's on your belt sailing, you often are bent over and contorted which seems to put a bit of pressure on the belt loop part (and due to the construction, the loop is the structural part with the rivets).

I'd like to replace it as it's really handy to have it there but I don't want the same case as it will just happen again.

I like the idea of the brown leather ones that are stitched, but suspect these are old and not made any more?

How do the nylon ones last and do they do one to fit a Blast?

Or does anyone use a third-party one?

Good call. I got impatient and ordered a Leatherman Nylon one for £6 to see how it compares to the leather one, but I like the sideways way you can belt mount the Maxpedition ones.

If it falls apart, I'll have one!

I asked a PSNI officer this when I bought mine and he advised there'd be little issues. In fact he said most police officers he knows own and carry one on their person, even when out of uniform so it would be quite hypocritical of them to say otherwise.

Plus I don't think wannabe gangsters are going out and buying £140+ multitools for their stabbings.

Put it onto a small carabiner and just hook that through your belt loop or something?

I've got a few Maxpedition bits. The quality is ace and the design is spot on,Bloody expensive in the uk though. My mate is going to the States tomorrow, he will bring back quite a few bits for me.its about half price. I had placed an order with him for leathermans which are less than half price, but what with all the flight issues he wouldn't pack themfrown

Mmmmmm about to buy a black oxide wave to keep in the car with my Lenser T7.

I've got a Gerber suspension in my draw at work, with a LED Lenser P3.

It gets on my tits when I need it at work, and it's at home, and vice versa.

I started out looking at a C33TX, because I only really need something to open the occasional parcel, maybe a screwdriver... But then I re-read this thread and man maths is kicking in!
