It's probably smaller than you are looking for but have a look at the Gerber Dime. It's not as precision as a leatherman or SAK but pocketable and useful none the less.
I did come across that, but it looks a good size for what I want, but would prefer a few functions done well, rather than lots of functions. I bought a Gerber dime (the mini microtool) as it had the tools I wanted to combine between a mini leatherman and a mini victorinox. In hindsight a waste of money as it isn't a patch on the knife and scissors on the victorinox and the pliers are not as strong* as the mini leatherman.
(*The replacement tool provided by the warranty was appreciated but the quality isn't there overall.)

Thanks for the feedback.
I think I'm going to try a Style CS this time, then that way if I find the Style PS that I'm sure I have lost at home, I will be able to make a hybrid with both pliers and a knife. I also know that the form factor works for me. I may still also get a Skeletool though.

Stepsons 14th birthday soon. Thought some sort of Leatherman item would help push him from joystick jockey to actually venturing outside.
Any recommendations for a young novice?
Keep it simple! & for which I recommend the Victorinox 'blumenmesser' - the so-called 'flower knife'Any recommendations for a young novice?
While it is aimed at gardeners - really what it is, is a single good blade: a really-utile, easy to maintain utility knife. Legal blade length - 55mm; a *straight* cutting edge, so very easy to (learn to) keep sharp; the fore end of which is utterly non-stabby, by design - so clearly not a weapon. The handle in use is rather longer than the blade - 100mm/ 4", so it fits right across the whole palm; an inherently safe thing to use for the reasons you'd want a utility knife.
I bought one on a whim a couple of years ago; it was recommended iirc here a long while ago - and found it's a gem of a thing, at a great price.
Oh, and then DO take the lad out camping, to use & encourage such exploration!
ATB.

I'd keep it classic and get a Swiss Army Knife. Maybe personalised from swisstool.co.uk - great selection and prices.Any recommendations for a young novice?

Was given a leather man surge for Christmas, but it’s way too much tool for me to ever use. Will stick it on eBay, never realised how expensive they were!
Why not leave it in your glove box in the car. That's where your more likely to need it.. I have a surge in my glovebox. and a victorinox rescue tool in my arm rest. Big Rig said:
Yep can’t list it on eBay. Hate FB marketplace so it’s going in the garage tool drawer to be forgotten about
Not marketplace, the UK Leatherman page.https://m.facebook.com/groups/514035628935964

It's a locking knife, so not legal to carry without good reason. As is your rescue tool. Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
