It's a locking knife, so not legal to carry without good reason. As is your rescue tool.
Is 'kept in the car' legally the same as 'carrying'?(My Wave lives in the car )
My wingman lives in my glove box, along with a pair of gardening gloves and a Japanese hori hori knife/trowel as they're all used every single time I head down to the allotment. If I was searched any other time, I'd likely have to do some explaining (likely without success) - but I figure that I've never actually had my car searched, and can't really think of a scenario where that'd end up happening!

Yep. Need a justifiable reason for carry.
Is repairing your car with it a good enough reason?Saying its there 'just in case' your car needs to be fixed (and specifically, why you need a blade to fix your car) is unlikely to gain much traction.

Joking aside, whilst acknowledging that the law applies to everybody, I can't imagine plod or CPS getting very excited about (in my case) a middle aged, middle class, respectable (ish) civil servant with no criminal record etc carrying a multitool with a blade slightly longer than allowed - even if they did call BS on my made up excuse.

A few weeks back, I helped a mate move house, as well as some other associated bits and pieces, and I had my Leatherman Skeletool in my pocket the entire time. I wouldn't carry it as an everyday habit, but for circumstances where I'm doing stuff, and it would be useful to have, I'll take it regardless.
This is a law that really is ridiculous. It doesn't move the needle in terms of reducing knife crime, yet makes life difficult for everyone else.

Managed to get one of the 40th anniversary leatherman when they were released. Really nice bit of kit.
Now i’m on the look out for a Crunch, either new or good condition, then i’ll be satisfied with my collection!
Wow, just this evening I was cleaning out my knife/multi-tool display cabinet, the only Leatherman I played with was Mr. Crunch.. an excellent bit of kit. Now i’m on the look out for a Crunch, either new or good condition, then i’ll be satisfied with my collection!

My Victorinox Rescue tool lives in my arm rest cubby in my car. One day it will come in useful.
