What is the socially accepted time to let children go outside to play on a Sunday? I ask as at bang on 9am the neighbours children were outside and all they have done since they got outside is scream. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with children going outside to play, in fact, I think children on the whole don't play outside enough. That said there must be a point at which the general population sort of expect to hear children outside?

I don't see a problem with children playing outside in the fresh air, doing what they do, (as you did when you were a child no doubt), at 9 in the morning.

You don't have any kids do you. 9am isn't unreasonable and you're probably lucky they didn't start earlier.

I was putting outside lights up at 7.30 this morning, sds and hammering - my neighbours must love me...

Its not because they were having a party until 3am, honest!

Anytime after 9 is fine by me - although I hate screaming kids and make sure ours are quiet (ish) when they play.

Any time after 08:59 seems fine.

I chuck mine out at that time.

Do try and stop the random screaming, mind. Makes me cross.

Bunch of miserable people on PH these days.

If you dont like other people then go and live in a cave somewhere. Otherwise accept that sometimes they will make noise, have kids, have parties etc. Im sure at times they get fed up with your habits too....

Our neighbours kids seem to like nothing more than screaming. Ive not once heard them say "shhhhhhh!" or "quieten down a bit please". Bloody inconsiderate imo

I wont let my dogs bark in the garden until at least 9am and tell them to stop at 8pm every night, trouble is they take no notice of me at all.

OP here, I don't want people to misunderstand me. I personally don't have any issue with our neighbours children being outside and I have no issues with them being outside at 9am, I was up already. I can however, imagine that some of my grumpier, less tolerate neighbours would be bothered, of which there are several.

I guess I could have just asked "What time is it socially acceptable to make loud noise outside on a Sunday?" As it is not different to starting up the lawn mower. I more interested in when people found it acceptable to hear lots of noise outside.

9am I would say is more than fine. Be lucky, our old neighbour's kids were out about 7am every weekend playing in the garden.

yes

Although it's bloody hard work trying to get them to understand that their idea of playing quietly is not the same as Daddy's.

Oh let the little darlings do what they want then...

No.

If my niece gets overexcited running around the garden, and does the whole 3 year old screaming malarky she is politely asked to calm down a little, or distracted with a more sedate occupation; a cuddle or drink of juice. Parenting is something that requires active involvment imo

For some reason packed kids playgrounds in schools, or anywhere really, remind me of summer.
Maybe it reminds me my happy childhood?

Personally, I think the sound of kids playing and laughing and screaming is very nice.

We have a primary school next to our office. Amazing how many people moan about the noise at playtime. I like it.

9am is perfectly acceptable, I find my neighbour mowing their lawn at 7:30am on a Sunday, less so.

Agreed, 9am is fine. If you normally get up at 7am then waking up at 9am is a lie-in!
